Oil light on and beeps has a quart low on it 2000 dodge caravan

3 possibilities. Bad oil sending unit. Bad crank bearings. So much sludge in the engine that the oil can't get back to the oil pan fast enough, this will cause bad crank bearings. I would pull a rocker arm cover first. If it is full of sludge, put it back on and drive it till it dies. save money for another car. If it is clean, replace the oil sending sensor.

3.8 dodge runs great but has a very loud ticking/tapping under valve cover gets louder when warmed up or more rpm

Not familiar with this specific engine, but I think you have adjustable rocker arms to adjust valve lash. May just need adjustment, but inspection will show if something is damaged.

I have no oil pressure in the car we pulled the valve cover today and found 6 of the rocker arms were not installed, we havent pulled the other cover yet however with this not installed would this affect...

Hi,
are you serious? Aside from that question. If there are rocker arms missing it could affect the oil pressure. Are the oil feed holes in the area of each missing rocker plugged off?

Perhaps I had better back-track here. If the oil lube system has no restrictions in it then there will be minimal oil pressure developed. The oil pump will be pumping oil to the lower end of the engine and that will be where oil press if any will be developed.

The rocker area has drillings which restrict the oil delivery from the pump, however, the rocker arms themselves offer resistance to the oil supply and the oil must have enough flow and pressure to form a circle of oil within the rocker arm and thus keep it clear of the shaft. The oil flow goes through the rocker arm, and down over the valves and pushrods,(if fitted) and drops back down into the oil pan. Different set ups can be used, but that's a basic configuration.

The engine lubrication is designed with certain resistances, and they in turn affect the flow of oil and the pressure developed by the pump.

Good luck.

Valves clicking with no lack of oil

The noise you are hearing is the ( hydraulic lash adjusters). They are located under the rocker arm assembly. To get to the assembly you will have to remove the rocker arm covers and remove the complete rocker assembly and springs. you will need to remove complete assembly from engine and put on a clean table to remove worn out hydrolic lash adjusters. If you attempt to do this yourself, remove the negative battery cable from battery before you start. If you have no experience on working on engines then take it to a mechanic to do the work. hope this will help you.

98 dodge caravan 3 liter ticks on cold start,

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE STICKY LASH ADJUSTER(LIFTER)..MANY MILES ON IT?HAVE YOU BEEN GOOD TO CHANGE OIL AND FILTER?TRY CHANGING THE OIL AND FILTER AND ADDING AN OIL SUPPLEMENT ..IF THIS DOESN'T WORK,YOU WILL HAVE TO ISOLATE WHICH BANK OF ENGINE NOISE IS COMING FROM,REMOVE VALVE COVER AND YOU CAN TO SEE WHICH ONE(S) ARE MAKING NOISE..PUSH DOWN ON EACH ROCKER ARM..A BAD ONE WILL BE SOFT..A GOOD ONE WILL BE HARD..NO LASH..TO REPLACE..YOU REMOVE ROCKER SHAFT BOLTS AND ROCKER SHAFTS..YOU CAN PURCHASE ONLY THE ONE(S) YOU NEED..BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE ROCKER SHAFTS..THE LIFTERS CAN FALL OUT..GET A STICKY GREASE TO HOLD THEM IN ROCKER ARMS DURING REASSEMBLY..I HOPE THIS HELPS

How to adjust valves on 1997 Dodge Caravan

3.0l engine?non adjustable..if noisy, have seen faulty lifters do this..has oil been changed regularly?if so,if you isolate noise to front or rear of engine you remove valve cover and push down and pull up on each rocker arm..if you find movement up and down..replace these and change oil and filter..3.3/3.8 engines..non adjustable also..if noisy, you may a oil supply problem to rear bank of engine..a camshaft bearing turns in block cutting off oil supply

1 Answer

Hearing a tapping noise from the lifters.

Have your oil pressure checked with a reliable mechanical gauge. If pressure is good, change oil and add a pint of marvel oil: it will help clean insides of lifters. if noise persists after a couple of weeks or gets worse, you will need to change lifter(s) check cam and rocker arm for wear.
Your rockers are shaft mounted and are not adjustable.
Hope this helped you and the problem does not turn out to be a serious one!
good luck
