Question about 2003 Nissan Altima

Open Question

I have a p0217 code (engine overtemp condition) I have replaced thermostats, water pump, flushed out radiator, check cap with coolant pressure tester, changed spark plugs, smelt spark plugs to see if it smelled like coolant for head gasket check. Dont know what else to do. I had the Body Control Module replace in January. All this is for a 2003 Nissan Altima with 160,000 plus miles. Can you help?

SOURCE: 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5S, Check Engine Light Problem.

My service engine soon light came on saturday on my 2003 nissan altima 2.5s, took it to the dealer and he stated I need a Catalytic Converter for the light to go off. Last yr Jan I had the same thing happen and there was a recall on the ECM they reset it for free. Any suggestions? I am so tired of getting ripped off being a single woman. The repair price they gave me was $940, my mechanic says he can repair w/new converter total charge of $300

Hey there,
I've just had an ongoing problem with my 1990 Pulsar overheating.
Mechanics checked everything: electric fan, airlocks, leaks, etc
Car continued overheating intermittently for months - finally the mechanic put a non standard thermostat in, one which activates at a slightly lower temp that stock.
Problem is now resolved.
Hope this helps,
Michael

Car running hot

the water coming out of the front would be from the water pump, it also would be an indication that the pump is bad, which may have been the reason of why the car overheated in the first place.

I have a 89 pontiac firebird Trans Am "GTA" 5.7L tuned port injected. My engine gets hot somehow and my car has a quick start but lower power afterward. What could the problem be?

Fix the radiator cooling problems. You will damage the engine if you keep running the car in an overheated condition.

1. Replace the thermostat in the cooling system
2. Replace the water pump
3. Flush the cooling system thoroughly and re-fill with the correct coolant. Bleed any air out of the system otherwise you will have problems with air blockages and thus poor coolant flow.

You probably do not know how to do any of this so take it to a reputable workshop or cooling specialist to have it done.

CHECK ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL.MAKE SURE COOLANT OVER FLOW JUG HAS COOLANT IN FULL COLD MARK.IF COOLANT OVER FLOW JUG IS EMPTY RADIATOR GOT TO BE LOW ON COOLANT POUR COOLANT IN THE OVER FLOW UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAY AT THE COLD FULL MARK.SEE IF RADIATOR DONT HAVE A RADIATOR CAP YOU HAVE TO POUR COOLANT IN THE OVER FLOW JUG COOLANT WILL FLOW DOWN IN RADIATOR UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STOP AT FULL COLD MARK.IF COOLANT LEVEL OKAY.YOUR THERMOSTAT NEED CHANGING ALSO RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.HAVE RADIATOR FLUSHED OUT.HAVE ENGINE BLOCK FLUSHED OUT.CHECK ENGINE OIL IF OIL LOOK LIKE MILK SHAKE ON OIL DIP STICK YOU HAVE LEAKING HEAD GASKET THAT WILL CAUSE ENGINE OVER HEAT WHILE CAR IN MOTION.CHECK WATER PUMP MAKE SURE ITS WEEP HOLE NOT LEAKING ANTIFREEZE IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.

My car is rumming hot and the antifreeze is leaking I'm thinking it's my water pump

It could be the water pump , or something else , like a faulty thermostat. Where is the coolant leaking from ? If it is leaking from the water pump , then yes , your pump might be toast.
If the thermostat is no good , the engine will warm up to normal temp , and then overheat quite quickly. As it overheats and the coolant expands and boils , it could back up into the overflow reservoir and leak out onto the ground. You need to get someone to diagnose the problem ASAP , running your engine in an overheat condition could very quickly blow your head gasket and/or warp a cylinder head. If you can , please post a bit more info. Does it run but at a higher than normal temp. Does it only overheat when stopped in traffic etc.
Could be water pump , or thermostat , or plugged up radiator , or nonfunctioning cooling fans.

The water on my car keeps heating up alot and it goes into the engine coolant resevoir leaving the rediator dry

You need to replace the radiator pressure cap. I would also replace thermostat, drain and flush radiator to start. If it continues the water pump may be not pumping water. If the thermostat is stuck closed it wont allow water to cycle through the engine causing it to boil and the pressure cap is not holding the pressure allowing it to flow to the reservoir. So first change the thermostat and the radiator pressure cap.

The best way to flush it would be to take off the bottom radiator hose and pump water through the fill nozzle after all the coolent is out you can then hook the hose back up and replace it with new coolant.
