It would be best to have it compression tested. you may be able to borrow a tool from a place like advanced auto parts or maybe autozone.

How to tell if the waterpump is faulty

Hi Charlene:
A faulty water pump will usually give you some indications.
1) Look for a coolant leak. Not always evident
2) Grasp the fan and see if it will wobble. A bad bearing can happen without the seal leaking.
3) Rattling sound could come from alternator, air conditioning compressor, tension idler, or power steering.
Use a mechanics stethescope or dowel sound rod to CAREFULLY listen to the different parts with the engine running. You will hear the faulty part.

Well you definitely have a coolant leak. Your going to need to poor water in and track down where the waters coming from. radiators, waterpumps, cooling flanges are common things i've seen on those cars. If you cant find it, have a friend help you try to locate the leak, if you still cant locate it, take it to a shop and have them pressure test the cooling system to diagnose the leak. let me know if you need more help

Hello: The waterpump is on the passenger side of engine. Either the heater hoses are leaking or the waterpmp shaft seals or the radiator hose that attaches to the waterpump. The waterpump is located about in the center, its pulley does not have groves and the pulley is held on the waterpump with 4 10mm bolts.

I busted my heater hoses fitting, the one behind the waterpump, and i cant get to it. I've taken the waterpump off. what else do I need to remove to get to it or where can I find a diagram

One heater hose runs to the top of the water pump the other one runs to the thermostat housing so I don't understand. If you took the water pump off you should have a tube like stem coming out of the top of the water pump, the heater hose connects to that.

Water is getting on your distributer cap..It is located directly under the water pump and getting wet..It comes as a kit (distributer cap, rotary button) and is around $120-$160.. Water pump has to come off to get to it and need to replace it as well when its off or you will just get the new one wet.
