If it doesn"t have a speedo cable it has to have a speed sensor. It is usually located on the drivers side of the transmission bolted into the tail housing. Sometimes they have a cable going to the sensor but was changed to just the sensor. Have you called a parts house like auto zone, and asked if they have a listing for a vehicle speed sensor for your vehicle> You do not have to go to the dealer all the time.By the way most speed sensors are on the outside of the trans not on the inside.Usually a 11mm wrench will remove the bolt that holds the sensor in place. Remove the bolt pull the sensor out and replace with new.

Speedometer sensor on the trans is the most common failure. or a bad dash cluster.

i believe it has a vehicle speed sensor in the rear diff that is probably your problem as the sensor you replaced in the transmission was probably the output shaft speed sensor

Inaccurate Speedometer

Your rear diff has a different ratio gear in it. Find out what ratio gear your car came with, remove your diff gear, and replace with same ratio that it came with from factory, that will fixya.

2002Jeep Liberty speedometer wiring diagram. We are looking for a wiring diagram. The speedometer and cruise control were surging and now they both will cut out plus the overhead console computer no...

wiring from the sensor on the rear diff ? What sensor ? The insturment cluster get's speed info over the PCI bus ( serial data network ) from the PCM - engine computer . The VSS - vehicle speed sensor is located on the transmission . The VSS is a input to the engine computer . Sorry , don't know who told you that . That is not correct . You should have it diagnosed at a qualified repair shop . Your insturment cluster or data network is probably at fault . Does the vehicle shift ok ?
The only sensor that mite be on the rear diff ,could be for the ABS ,an that has nothing to do with the speedometer .
Have the vehicle checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .

1990 volvo 740 speedometer quit working

There is a speed sensor on the rear diff cover that may me shot, however it is regulated by hertz so the dealer is the best place to see if the wires are okay. That sensor can be costly.
