Question about 2004 Jaguar X-Type

Locked out of 04 xtype

I believe my keys were inadvertently locked in my car during a funeral...I cannot find my spare key. The dealership says they can make me a valet key but that won't start the car...am I to understand that my only alternative may be 500 dollars to get a new key programmed?Could not have happened at a worse time in lifeany help or suggestions most appreciated

Contact the AA or RAC in the UK or the AAA in the USA they can normally get you into your car. At $500 I'd smash the windscreen and climb in then pay the insurance excess to get it fixed ..... that would be $400 saved.

Seriously if the key is in there the valet key is all you need. If it's not there then you need a replacement anyway.

The only place you can go is the nearest dealership. They can reprogram the remote, and fit a physical key lock.

Lost one key


The dealership is protecting you from car thieves. Good for them. Go to a lock smith not the key machine at Walmart to get a key made.

Change locks


most Gm use a chip in the keys. the doors with be easy to ,but the ignition will not. you will need to go to the dealership and have them remove the lock from the ignition and re program the new key

My car has the round red light showing in the panel box. It will not start. The manuel says something about trunk circuit.


I have experienced this before, In my case the the RF (Radio Frequency) chip in the key had failed and when this happens the car is essentially locking its self from staying running; its a security feature. In my case the vehicle would start and then in roughly 2-5 seconds would shut off and the alarm light would flash (far as i know the round red light on the dash) You need a new key (NOT the key-less remote ) and then the key must be reprogrammed at a capable establishment such as a dealership or locksmith. To test if this is your issue try using the spare key, if you have one. If it starts and remains running using the spare then you know your main key is bad. Once again this may or may not be your problem, in my experience it was the key. On a side note its not very cheap to replace a key, and there are 2 different variations of the keys for your vehicle (04 Chrysler Sebring Based on your info we pretty much have the same vehicle; I have the 2.4l) The dealership referred to them as the grey and black version. I dont believe so. Your best bet would be to have it towed to a dealership and go from there

The key wont come out the ignition unless the battery is dead


the key will not leave the ignition unless the car is in park and the key is in off position. it could be whatever tells the car that its in park or a problem with the slot itself. ive had similar problems with the key sticking in multiple locks in the car, even the ignition. i tried deicing and lubricating all of them; it did nothing. so i tried my spare key, it worked on every lock. wat ive found is that the tumbler arrangement for this car prevents duplicating but the key itself can wear out over time due to its complex shape. try a spare key if you have one or order a new one from the dealership.

The spare tire key/lock on Ford trucks and SUVs is not the same a wheel locks.

This is a very common problem -- Ford's spare tire key being missing in a used truck, van or SUV. Ford has discontinued this spare lock model, because it obviously sucks. Unfortunately, this means your dealership probably can't order the new spare key for you. The company that made them is still around, and you can find out what size it is and re-order, but this is not the best solution.

Here is the best answer I found, for what it's worth.

Remove the spare tire lock completely, and you don't need a key at all. Problem solved. You must first remove the black plastic guide that leads to the spare lock. Then, with a screwdriver push our the lock, or you can pull it out with pliers. Afterwards and forevermore, you can use the black rod extension to turn the spare tire winch mechanism, and it will work beautifully every time.

Also, if you don't want to drive around with your spare unlocked (because, apparently, people steal spare tires), you can get an aftermarket tire lock for a very reasonable price -- and it will work, and be a heck of a lot better than the stock spare lock/key discontinued nightmare.

I left spare key in my rx300 and locked it with the other when i came back to it it wouldent unlock by remote only by the key but the alarm goes wild


Try reversing the process with your other keys. You may just have a low battery in the key you unlocked with. Security settings on teh vehicle are programmable by the dealership. When my battery has failed under teh hood and we unlocked the car to boost, the horn went off the same way. Once the battery was replaced everything functioned fine. Your battery in the key may be failing to communicate with the car,or security was programmed that way from last owner, but try the procedure with and without spare keys locked inside

you will have to call a profesional locksmith who can make you a key for the door only to unlock it, i do auto lockouts for a living but we are unable to unlock them with standard tools for unlocking cars, I can pump open the door and hit the unlock switch but it will never unlock the door, the car alarm prevents this from doing so. Slim jims dont work on these also, nothing works, BMW actaullay requires us to tow them to the dealership whenever we get lockouts for BMW's. give the dealership your VIN number and they can send you another key for about $150, if you ca afford a BMW then u can afford $150 to get a new key.
