Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2 Answers

My 2001 jeep started to run terrible, making horrible noises and I took it to the service station. They said there was no oil in it and the engine is shot. I had the oil changed a month ago and no warning lights came on. How could this happen?

That happens some times the switch has malfuntioned and or the fuse has blown on all of your warning lights. Have you seen oil on the ground or has it been smoking.

Sadly I see a couple of similar problems each year and not just on one brand of vehicle. Sometimes it's just impossible to tell what happened to the oil but usually I find that either the engine developed an oil consumption problem [such as a broken oil control piston ring] or it developed a small external oil leak at an oil sending unit, gasket, or some other place that slowly depletes the oil level over many days or weeks until it gets low enough and damage occurs. As for why the light didn't come on? You should be able to check to see if it's still working by just turning on the ignition, but without starting or cranking the engine, and all the warning lights should come on at that time. If it doesn't come on then your sending unit or bulb might have failed prior to the engine getting low on oil and not been able to alert you to the problem. If it does come on then there may have still been just barely enough oil pressure left to keep the light of but not enough to prevent engine damage. Hope this help a bit and good luck with your problem!

Oil Filter Came Off While Driving

When a engine runs without oil there is damage done to the bearings--rings and valve train. IT will not run hot as there is water to cool it but unfortunately there is no oil to lubricate it. Have an oil pressure test done with a mechanical gauge to check if there is bearing damage. Have the rockers and hydraulic tappets checked for damage .Have a compression test done to check for ring damage. Have the engine professionally inspected before making a decision to recondition or replace

What will happen if you over fill the engine with oil? jeep cherokee 2.5 it run for 5seconds we turned it off, it made a terrible noise

Not good, the oil can't be compressed. So when the pistons come down they are ramming into that oil and it will try to escape through whatever path is easiest. Can result in blown gaskets or even bent internal parts. Drain it and refill properly.

Hi Adam, Its sounds like you may have a sticky valve lash adjuster, try running hydraulic lifter additive in oil. If that does'nt fix it you may have to replace the lash adjuster.

Back door makes terrible squeaking noise when

When you open your door you will see a flat bar that slides into the door while opening and closing. It is located between the two door hinges. There is a rubber on the door where the flat bar slides in and out, remove that rubber and you will see little rollers in the door, those rollers need to be oiled, preferably with engine oil. Oil the rollers and work the doors back and forth, the noise should abate.

Flashing light issue/ a/c issue

What flashing light ? Check engine ? You either have a bad engine misfire that could lead to a destroyed catalytic converter . Or a problem with Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System. The A/C making a horrible noise , the A/C only has two moving parts the compressor an the compressor clutch coil , your compressor is locking up an you hear the serpentine belt . You'll burn up the serpentine belt . Your to vague in you posting suggest you take it to a qualified repair shop .

Noisy Engine

Well, first off if the intake was that bad you would have noticed it before the oil change.

Second, intakes don't make load noises unless there is a serious vaccum leak and then the car would be running horrible.

I would advice you to take it to a dealership and have them look it over and see what is wrong especially while it's under warrenty.
