Question about 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Engine tries to turn over, it acts like its not getting any spark or gas, when I crank it over, I don't smell gas, could it be the fuel pump or maybe a simpler, cheaper problem?

Check fuse to fuel pump. If it is trying to start then you more then likely are getting a spark.

The engine will not turn over, crank senor maybe

MAYBE? It could be many other things too. Do you have spark, gas from the injectors, fuel pressure, does the engine turn (combustion), exhaust pressure. Start by scanning the computer, any codes to work with? Do you smell gas,Then try pulling the plugs, wet w/ gas? Maybe loss of spark. Checking for spark & to ck the fuel injectors require specialized equipment. I cant go any further unless you are equipped. Getting back to your original question, yes I've changed many crank sensors for no start problems. Have it ckd before you just throw money out the window. Good luck

2000 ford 4.0 explorer cranks but fails to start. It acts like it starts after sitting all night but then only cranks, what is wrong?

Check for spark to the sparkplug. Try a shot of starting fluid as having gas pumping and having the fuel injectors opening are 2 different things. If you have spark, then the fuel injectors may not be working. Quick diagnosis is to use starting fluid and see if engine tries to run. This indicates problem is not lack of spark but lack of fuel getting into cylinders.

Why car wont crank, but can smell gas

IT IS LOOKS LIKE A FUEL PRESSURE LEAKING INSIDE THE ENGINE OR DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTOR LEAKING . TRY DISCONNECTING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. AND CRANK THE ENGINE IF ALWAYS CRANK WITH OUT OF FUEL (CRANK WITHOUT START) YOU HAVE FUEL LEAK INSIDE THE ENGINE
REMOVE THE INJECTORS RAIL UP EVERYTHING CONNECTED,PUT BACK THE FUEL PUMP RELAY TURN THE SWITCH ON AND FIND WICH ONE IS LEAKING. (GASOLINE IS FLAMMABLE TAKE CARE)

2002 kia sedona will not start, new starter , sounds like not getting gas or maybe flooding any ideas

If you smell gas it is getting gas, if not check the fuel filter. Next thing to check is to see if there is a spark. Remove the spark plug from the engine. Have someone crank the engine with the spark plug grounded, see if there is a spark. Also check for the smell of gas in the spark plug hole.

Cranks won't start

smelling gas like you are is a bad thing, engine must turn over to fire injector. sounds like flooding ( possible ECM/power computer bad ). Before condemning the computer pull all spark plugs, disable ignition coils, then try cranking to see if engine will turn over. Be carful if hydro locked gas will be pushed out the spark plug hole/s

96 tahoe . It will not crank up unless I pour gas into the throttle body . Once it cranks it will run untill I shut it off but want crank by itself . Why

First, lets be clear with terms. To crank is to turn the engine over, you can do this manually with a wrench on many vehicles. It requires no spark or air. To turn over or to fire is when you achieve combustion. Example: You could pull the spark plugs on a vehicle and turn the key and it would crank, but it wouldn't fire or turn over.

Now it sounds to me like your vehicle is cranking but not firing unless you pour gas in it. My first thoughts are fuel system. I'm assuming it can't be fuel pump because it runs once it fires. Perhaps the fuel pump isn't priming itself, or perhaps somehow air is getting in the line between the injector and fuel pump? Test the fuel pump first by turning the car from off to on (not starting, just on). You will usually hear a short buzzing noise coming from the engine bay that stops shortly afterwards, that's your fuel pump pressurizing the line. (Pro Tip: If you ever try to take your key from off to straight to start and the vehicle doesn't start on the first try, but does the second time no problem, try delaying at on for a moment before trying to start. This gives your fuel pump time to pressurize the line.) Assuming your fuel pump is charging the line, the next place to look would be at the path the fuel takes to the throttle body. When you crank it over and it doesn't start, are you getting any fuel? If you can't see where the fuel enters the system try smelling the exhaust while cranking without it firing, if it smells of fuel you're good and need to look at air flow and spark, if not it's a fuel issue.

Past that, I'll leave it to someone more experienced than myself, but that would be how I troubleshot my own vehicle.

Engine died as I came to stop off hiway on off ramp, tried to start and engine would not turn over. Acted like it was flooded. left to get help and found oil cap off under hood latch area when I returned....

pumping the petal will not flood engine. Can u smell gas while trying to turn it over? can u pull a spark plug and smell fuel on it. You also do need to make sure you are getting fuel to the fuel rail first can u hear the pump come on when you turn key in the on position second with key on engine off see if fuel comes out of the port at the fuel rail careful contents under pressure.

Engine cranks but wont start

This may be a result of no fuel or no spark. To test, remove a spark plug after turning the engine over for a few turns and smell it. If it smells like gas, it's a spark problem, if not you should check your fuel lines for leaks or your fuel pump. A quick way to test the fuel pump is to put the key in the ignition, turn it to "on" but don't try to start the car and listen for the pump to "prime" the system. It will sound like a low humm.

To check for spark, remove a plug and hold it against the engine block while someone tries to start the car (only turn the engine over once or twice while doing this!). If you are getting spark, you should see it. If you aren't, check the firing order, the distributor cap/coil packs, wires, and the plugs themselves.

I hope that helps and good luck!
