As explained on your other request your filter will need changing, If you require it to be topped up You could buy a DIY can of refrigerant gas and inject it into your cars Aircon system yourself.
It's still recommended that you change the air filter otherwise it will continue to blow HOT air, If you switch for the cold and hot has broke then you can use a voltage machine and see if its getting electric if the switches are failing then look under hood and under drivers seat for the fuse boxes and make sure no fuses have blown they will all have diagrams off what fuse is for what component.

Thanks, I check the Glove Box and didn't notice anything showing Air Filter. Is there another place that the AC Filter can be found? I know I entered 2003 Malibu before but its actually 2004. I wasn't sure if that made a difference or not.

The A/C filter is behind a cover Behind the glove compartment, Turn your A/C on you will hear where the a/c is coming from

Thanks so much the visual is very helpful. I'm going to get the filter and try this out. I have one more question...If I was to take the Air filter out and run the air without it just to determine if it blow cool air. Is that a good sign that I don't need to fill it back up?

    Yes

  • dorita_satte Jul 20, 2010

Ok, I was able to check the filter and discovered that there was not one in there at all. Does this mean that I need the fill it up? Do I need to put in a filter?

Yes fill it up and get a new filter, No filter means dirt and things can get into the vents making them need cleaning also.

Ok, I have put in a filter and filled the car up. How fast should I notice a change in the Air? It didn't work initially but started working maybe 45 minutes after. It sound like the compressor is coming on and off but not staying on. The car was making an occassional hissing sound(Like a snake) during my 45 minute ride home. Also the pipe where we filled it up was code and then remained hot. Not sure what my next steps should be.

Leave it running on Full A/C for around an hour or so and any problems should fade away.
If not then you can also try cleaning your A/C vents which could have been clogged over the time of not having a filter for a long period of time.

No problem , And all the best with your car in future..
Females pay alot more attention then males when fixing problems so you car will last for ever...
Males are more prone to ignore any problems till car wont run :P

Air conditioning blows hot and cold air

You will need to know if the compressor is working when it blows hot air to proceed. It could be an electrical problem, a blend door problem, or the a/c clutch on the compressor.

My 2004 malibu does not blow hot air when in the heating position. the blower works and only blows cold air.thermostat seems fine.

What makes you think the thermostat is fine? First thing I would check is the level of your antifreeze to see if it's up to the correct level. If it is then thermostat is my next culprit and if it is in fact OK then it might be the water pump or plugged up heater core.

2004 MALIBU MAXX A/C BLOWS HOT AIR

Could be several things. The fuse relay to the AC compressor could be bad. The system may need to be recharged due to lack of refrigerant the compressor will not work unless it has enough.
