Best bet is to take the drums off and take a look. How many miles? If it is over 100 just replace them.

VIEW DIAGRAM FOR 2001 DODGE DURANGO REAR BRKES

I'm sorry but I don't have a diagram of this area. Unless you have a rear disc brake, to my knowledge not an option on that year model, the rear brake drum is setup pretty much the same as any other vehicle. The concept is essentially unchanged in decades for all vehicles.

Ensure the parking brake is Off.

If necessary, remove the adjusting hole cover from the backing plate and using a suitable tool, back off the shoe adjuster.

If the drum is difficult to remove, insert an 8mm bolt into the hole on the drum to push it off.

Most of the Gen 1 Durangos had the useless rear wheel ABS. This fuse most likely goes in the the PDC or power Distribution Center under the hood next to your battery.

How is the pedal now? Your 02 has rear drum brakes which sometimes need to be adjusted to keep a firm pedal.

Which year is your D,,,, 02 or 1999? In any case, both models have rear drum brakes. The 01 I had would be grabby on the rear shoes when it was damp or humid out for the first stop or two.

Visit the autozone.com website and register the car information. It's free and will give you access to an online repair manual for the car. Information regarding the braking system should be available there. It's a handy resource. Hope this helped and best wishes.
