Question about Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

2001 Dodge Caravan 2.4 DOHC stalled, won't start. Can I pull the cam sensor on the right end of the valve cover to see if the cam is turning to see if the timing belt is intact? It has spark.

As I suggested. I checked the fuel pump relay and fuse, checked the automatic shutdown relay and fuse. All worked. Next I disconnected the fuel line from the fuel rail. when the key was turned to the on position no fuel came from the fuel line, none. Is it likely that one of the fuel pumps is bad? If so, how do I determine wnich one?

On that Dodge Caravan the fuel pump relay is working and the fuse is good. When the key is turned on the fuel pump buzzes only 1/3 to 1/2 second, no more. When the fuel loine is disconnected from the fuel rail ay the injectors there is no pressure and no gas comes out when the key is turned on. If the pump were working wouldn't gas shoot out of the fuel line?

Before you do that, check fuel pump relay, fuse and operation and pressure.
Make sure the injectors are energized and delivering gas when turning key on (they will do it for 2 secs. every time the key is open, have somebody turn the key while you check)
Open the PDC (fuse box) next to the battery, look for the Automatic Shutdown (ASD) Relay. It has a 20A fuse in it, make sure it is not blown.
If all of the above passes the tests, check camshaft and crankshaft Position sensors.

Keep me posted!! Good Luck!!

The fuel pump relay and fuse are located in the engine compartment fuse box, if the fuse is OK, when you turn the key to the ON position, you should hear a click inside the relay amd a humming noise inside the fuel tank. Have somebody turning the Key while you check both thingsl, If relay clicks and no humming noise in fuel tank, REPLACE PUMP.

Fuel Pump can be bought by itself or as an assembly, if you go for the fuel pump alone, also get the strainer with it. If gauges are working fine, go for the pump and strainer to save some $$$$$.

Click on the link for a blow out of the pump assembly, in this site, you'll also find removal and installation instruccions. GOOD LUCK BUDDY!!!

Oh!! Your vehicle only has ONE fuel pump!!!

  • Rene J Solis Jul 22, 2010

If you have fuel in the tank, when you turn the key to on, you should have gas coming to the lines, if the lines are disconnected, place an clear empty small plastivc bottle of soda or something into the gas supply line, have someone turn the key to the ON position, you should see the bottle filling up for as long as the pump is on.

Dirty fuel injectors. Computer will show misfire on the cylinders that are malfunctioning. If injector cleaner in tank won't clean them, pull them all out and have a professional take them apart and cleaned. Each injector has a screen in it that can get plugged up. Think about Bro, all other stuff has been renewed.

To Remove
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the filtered air tube from the throttle body and air cleaner housing.
  3. For SOHC engines, remove the air cleaner inlet tube.
  4. For SOHC engines, detach the electrical connectors from the engine coolant sensor and the camshaft position sensor.
  5. For DOHC engines, unplug the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor.
  6. For SOHC engines, remove the brake booster hose and the electrical connectors form the holders on the end of the cylinder head cover.
  7. Unfasten the camshaft position sensor mounting screws, then remove the sensor.
  8. Loosen the screw/bolt attaching the target magnet to the rear of the camshaft.
To Install: NOTE: The target magnet has 2 locating dowels which fit into the machined locating holes in the end of the camshaft.

Were do i find the spark plugs on a 2001 doge caravan 2.4 liter

The 2001 Dodge Dual Overhead Cam engine spark plugs are located in the top center of the cylinder head--right between the cams. The ignition system uses a coil pack located right beside the plugs. The system has very short spark plug wires from the coil to the spark plug so current drop is very low over the length of the wire. The spark plugs are mounted at the base of a tube in the valve cover so an extension on a ratchet is required to reach them

In a 1993 the crank and cam sensors are in the timing cover on the Dodge Stealth dohc 3.0. But on the 92 it's at the end of the cam gear. How can I make this swap?

i would think you could take out the cam plug and put the sensor in but the cam if i remember right has a metal pin like a dowel inserted in a hole drilled in the camshaft and that is what the sensor reads. if there is no pin or other tab on the other engine then you would have to swap the cam

2001 dodge grand caravan stalls

Check the sensors on the throttle body. There is a sensor that controls air to fuel ratio. If that sensor is bad then the car will run and then stall out while in drive. I had the same problem when it was cold outside last winter. If you dont want to dish out the money without knowing if it is that part at fault or not then start the van pop the hood and located the throttle body. Place your hand on the sensors and give them a little shake and then make sure they are plugged in all the way. You could also turn the van off and unhook the sensor clean the connectors and plug it back in. That should do the trick and if it doesnt stall anymore then I would replace those sensors if I was you. One more thing. If your giving the sensors a tug while the car is running and you hear it going to stall you could located the gas pedal cable and give it a rev or two by hand so it doesnt stall out and turn off. By the way. You van isnt over heating at all is it?
