Question about 2002 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

The a/c on my 2002 galant is not working properly. It might or might not come on and always stops working within 20 minutes of being on. The a/c light starts to blink and instead of cold air I get hot air. It seems to happen most often when I am braking or accelerating. My mechanic says that there is nothing wrong with the a/c. So why doesn't it work?

Hi! Yes there will be no problem on the a/c line but sure is on the PCM (powertrain control module). The PCM controls every electrical accesories in the car which includes the engine, transmission, windows, locks, instrumental panel, a/c system on how it should work, etc. Once the PCM is replaced you'll be good. Hope this helps and have a good one!

I have a mitsubishi Galant 2002 manual. I struggle to engage gears when the car has been standing for a while and therefore cold. By pumping the clutch i can eventually start to select gears until I can...

gear oil is not the problem because it you started a cold engine and let it idle for a while (5 minutes) the gear box oil will thin out
IN correct oil generally shows as slashing gears when changing as it prevents the synco rings from operating properly
I f you have a hydraulic clutch ,it indicates a problem master cylinder and you are pressurizing the system to compress any air that should be bled out properly
If there has been no clutch system maintenance since new , or within the last 5 years ,it would be ideal to take it to an accredited brake and clutch specialist shop and have both the slave cylinder and master cylinder replaced

Have a 2002 galant with 2.4 cold it turns on good it will run for 20 min. but after that it will shake and turns off i replaced crank sensor and coils but it still has the same thing.

If you remove the gas cap, does it still die after 20 minutes? If so, then there is likely an evaporative emission system problem, or a fuel pump problem.

Could be a dirty fuel filter. Could be an ECU problem. Any error codes ?

2002 mitsubishi galant-window regular, drivers side, seems you have a very small space to remove old one, is the the only way to replace??

Once I started doing this replacement, I found it to be very simple. Once the door pannel is removed, its just a matter of removing 3 screws holding the motor, 4 holding the track and 2 holding the track to the window itself. Be sure to use a brace to hold up the glass when removing. There are only 2 wiring plugs to disconnect, just unplug....very simple...took all of 20 minutes to do. I wonder what a shop would have charged to replace....cost me 133.22 including shipping.

My speedometer in my car stopped working all of a sudden!

Well, you learned the hard way, always disconnect the neg. battery cable before working on anything electric. (I've screwed things up trying to save a couple of minutes by not disconnecting the cable myself, sure I would be careful and not ground out anything!)
Your diagnostic link plug in is under the dash on the driver's side, mounted on the passenger side of the steering column. Autozone should have been able to find it. Get the codes scanned to see what fried when the wires touched. If you have any questions, post the trouble code #'s here for further help. Good luck! Curt

Has it overheated lately?
My wife overheated our Galant and it just stopped working, it cranks but that's it.
I pulled the sparkplugs and found them wrapped in a gewey jelly like substance. Like an oil/antifreeze combo.
I am going to replace the entire motor for $1000 as taking it to the mechanics to theorize and practice may cost more.
