Question about 2007 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 Sedan

1 Answer

I have a Passat 1.8T, 2001 Model. Any time i'm on the road, it will get to a time it will display "OIL PRESSURE, STOP!". When I checked through the manual, I discovered that this display should only come up if the engine oil level is low. But the engine oil has never been low. Please help!

This is a common vw turbo issue. have synthetic oil put into the vehicle and replace the oil pressure sending unit. the sending unit part number is 06A919081J $24.30 from your local vw dealer.

The Warning Light Comes on "Stop Engine Low Oil Pressure" what does this mean

car needs oil pressure or bearings will wear out in short time. Do not drive or start engine with this light on. Might only be pressure sending unit. Can replace sending unit and start briefly to see if problem resolves. If light still stays on, shut off engine and have oil pump replaced.

2003 VW Passat "Oil Press, Turn Off Engine" and "STOP" Light

I would check the oil pressure sensor and the oil pump itself. You can take the sensor out and use a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is within specs, you need a new sensor, if not, you need a new pump.

Oil pressure stop motor

My 2003 1.8L Passat at 62K indicated Oil Pressure, Stop Engine. I had been low on oil for longer than I realized, though the car didn't indicate to me anything. I added a quart 5-40 synthetic as usual, and about 300 miles mid way on a road trip is when the warning lit up!
I had been to the dealer last year and there was a mention of sludge developing in these cars. They suggested I bring it in to remove sludge but life got busy, and it never happened. Evidently this model Passat is notorious for this oil sludge problem.
My Passat needed a new oil pump $800 later half way between destination and home. Luckily I was in a town with a 30 VW mechanic who was very good. The sludge (carbon deposits) had blocked pump pickup. Oil level was good. The computer didn't show anything, but the oil pressure test discovered PSI went down when RPM's went up. Not good.
This problem is very serious as it has ruined engines. I guess I was lucky in the fact that nothing else was damaged. So you may look into this build up. It sounds terribly familiar.
