Whining is usually an alternator. Some do this more than others, but if it normally hasn't, you may be coming up on needing yours replaced, or the battery may be getting weak. Keep these in mind and be ready for when they fail.

I am thinking alternator. Try turning headlights on to increase electrical load and see if sound changes.

The only thing that would cause this is a faulty power steering pump. Any shop can listen and confirm this.

Is it a "wine" noise that gets louder when you rev it up? Sounds like an idler pulley. Is it a 3.3L motor?

2005 GMC Envoy. Wining sound from under the car at startup.

Hello,
I suggest checking your starter motor. If the starter motor is staying engaged it could be a bad solenoid or a bad ignition switch.

I hope this helps.
