Question about 1999 Volkswagen Passat

1 Answer

I just bought a 1999 VW passat V6. Car sound and seemed to run great. I am now noticing a few things. when I take my foot off the gas it seems to **** a little or the rpm;s seem to change up and down. Also I noticed the MFA display seems to reset all the time. The clock stays accurate, but the average mpg is never accurate and the instant mpg seems to get a ----- across the screen, then works again.it does this every 10 minutes.

Hello! Referencing the MPG problem...I suspect that the Multifunction Memory And Mode Select Switch is defective...This is a dealer item...It has nothing to do with the clock and everything to do with the MPG display...One question...Is the speedometer working properly? If so I believe the MFMSS needs to be replaced...

The Throttle Valve Control Module (TVCM) Is the prime suspect for the other fault...It can be tested...You will need a multimeter...Tell me if you have any expertise working with a volt meter and I'll give you the procedure...Saailer

Hi. Please get the engine and gearbox mounts checked. This can cause a lurch type feel when they have excessive movement in them.

When i try to start my 99 vw passat gls v6 it will barely start and stay started for possibly 5 sec with no presure on gas pedal if i keep my foot on the gas it will stay running but the rpms wont rise...

it hard to say there few things that could cause this but sounds like it a Fuel issue
Possible bad fuel pump totallly clogged fuel filter bad injectors Out of gas etc.
first thing you need to do is check your fuel pressure ( I bet it be low ) if it low check fuel filter if fuel filter good replace fuel pump
If Fuel pressure is within Specs then test the injectors
if Fuel pressure is ok and injectors test out ok then check ignition system (spark plugs, coils, module etc)

I have a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T. My check Engine light is on and when it was scanned I got two codes 171 & 455. What does this mean? I do notice that when I fill up at the gas station, my car acts like it...

Engine is running lean and there is a leak in the evap system, most likely due to purge valve stuck open. This is causing the engine to flood after a fill up. This is a known problem with the 06 Passat. See post here: http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2006-to-2010-volkswagen-passat-2.htm

p1545 is a throttle control malfuction code

You can try to reset the throttle body by opening the hood and drivers door then turning your key to the accessory position. You will hear the throttle body whir and click. It may take up to two minutes. Afterward, the car will relearn your habit of driving and adjust accordingly.

I researched this & you need to replace the throttle body gasket & get the throttle body re-calibrated. Seems to be dealer only. Also, the t.p.s. (throttle position sensor) could be bad.

Oil light and brake lights blinks on and off and abs light is on

Just a idea. If the car is running at idle and the oil light blinks , it usually from low oil pressure. At a idle your seeing the light respond to the revolutions of the engine. ! thing to try is to replace the oil pressure switch on the engine block. And #2, Most causes in a VW is that the vehicle overheated at one time and weekend the oil pump,or massive amount of miles.
