Remove and, replace the brake light switch above the brake pedal under the dash.

Do you have a picture of the switch that I am to remove and replace?

no but, if you look right up under the dash above the brake pedal you will see a switch with a pin coming out of it pressing on the brake pedal arm it works like this: pedal not pressed (pin in; lights off) push pedal down (switch pin out; lights on) the pedal holds the pin in brake lights off, when it's not pushed to apply the brakes.
the dealer or, a repair book or, the library repair manuals will have the picture of the brake light / stoplight switch if you still need it.

I would check the brake pedal height and whether it is sagging or not. If the rear drum brakes (if so equipped) aren't tight enough, it can lower the pedal.

Also, if there is air in the brake system, it can cause this symptom.

I'm not sure how changing a battery could cause this condition.

Good luck on fixing this problem.

SOURCE: the anti-brake light and brake light stay on

You may need to have the body computer scanned for trouble codes.
Also, if the hydraulic brake system is low on fluid or the parking brake is on, both lights will come on.

Brake light switch is either defective or needs to be adjusted. Probably not related to the battery being replaced.

There is obviously have a drain on the battery. You have a faulty break light pedal switch causing the lights to stay on, or your turn signal switch is bad. your brake lights run through, the turn signal switch too. That could also cause the problem.

Possibly that the brake light switch - it tells the lights to go on when you step on the brake - is bad and keeps that lights on all the time. Also bad if you'd be driving and drivers think you have the brake on all the time.

When the lights are on check the battery voltage. Should be 13.0 to 14.5. If you unplug the connector on the alternator when the lights are on, do they go off?
