Not sure what sort of fuel line repair problem you are having at the sender, but most fuel lines these days are high pressure because of the fuel injection, so use special snap fittings. To release them you usually have to buy a special tool that clamps over the line and slides into the fitting, to release it internally. But it is also possible to just cut a line and splice it with high pressure rubber fuel line and clamps. The pressure is not all that high. And if the fuel pump is not in the tank, then at the sender the pressure would be low because it would be before the tank. Tell us more please.

To repair these lines, napa auto parts I know has the repair parts, just get the replacement part at napa it is a quick connect,it is available ,and has a barb with it,that you put in very hot water to soften it up and push the barb in the plastic fuel line, the other end has the quick connect on it,just push it on the sending unit/fuel pump ***.If this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

I just had my fuel pump replaced and now my fuel gauge is way off. I can't tell when I'm on empty, I know it's somewhere between the half tank mark and full, but I don't know. I need to...

Whoever replaced your fuel pump, damaged the the fuel level sender when they did the pump repair. The fuel level sender is attached to the same assembly that the pump is mounted in. You will need to have the shop that did the repair, remove the the gas tank again and repair the sender or replace the entire sender/pump assembly.

How do I get the fuel pump out of the fuel tank?

like everyone else. vent off the pressure in the line if it is injection system. then you drain the tank and lower it from the vehicle, when you can get your hands above the tank you disconnect the wiring and hoses. when it is on the ground you remove the lock down ring and pull out the sender/pump assembly. this is another one of those tasks which really should not be done as a first experiment in car maintenance. i would get a repair manual first, they are cheap on ebay. since this is something you do once a decade, replace the fuel level sender while you are in there, and use new fuel line.

I have a buick lesabre 2000 and my gas gauge is giving me a incorrect reading. Does this mean I need to get a fuel injector cleaner done?

No, the problem is with the fuel level sending unit in the gas tank. This is normally a substantial repair task. Fortunately, your sender is sold separate from the fuel pump and both are accessible from the trunk under the spare tire. The labor should only be a couple of hours. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Drain the fuel tank.

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined earlier. CAUTION
Fuel injection systems remain under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.
  2. If not already done, disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle with jackstands.
  4. Safely drain and remove the fuel tank assembly as outlined later in this section.
  5. Detach the quick-connects from the fuel sender assembly and remove the fuel lines.
  6. Using tool J 35731, or an equivalent spanner wrench, remove the fuel sender lockring.
  7. Lift the sender assembly carefully out of the fuel tank.
  8. Remove the sender O-ring from the top of the sender and discard. WARNING
Do NOT run the fuel pump unless it is submerged in fuel. Running the pump dry will cause serious damage to the fuel pump and may cause the pump to explode due to the oxygen in the air.
  9. Note the position of the fuel pump strainer on the fuel pump and, while supporting the pump assembly in one hand, twist the strainer off the pump and discard the strainer.
  10. Detach the fuel pump electrical connector.
  11. Remove the clamp from the fuel line at the top of the pump.
  12. Hold the fuel sender upside down on a work bench and pull the fuel pump out of the lower mounting bracket. Once the pump is clear of the lower mounting bracket, tilt the pump outward and disconnect the pump from the sender assembly. To install:
  13. Replace any attaching hoses or rubber sound insulators that show signs of deterioration.
  14. Install the rubber bumper and insulator on the fuel pump.
  15. Hold the fuel sender upside down and install the fuel pump between the fuel pulse dampener and mounting bracket.
  16. Attach the fuel pump electrical connector.
  17. Install the retaining clamp on the fuel line.
  18. Install a new fuel pump strainer on the outer edge of the ferrule until fully seated. The strainer must be facing the same direction as it was before removal.
  19. Position a new O-ring on the top of the fuel tank and install the sender assembly.
  20. Install the lockring using J-35731, or an equivalent spanner wrench.
  21. Install the fuel tank as outlined later in this section.
  22. Refill the gas tank.
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position to pressurize the fuel system and check for leaks.
