Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Few days back my car gear got stuck in drive I can change the gears from P to R to D and to N. However car only moved forward regardless of the gear I put. Meaning to say car moved forward in R and N. Today when I checked after changing to R car drives in reverse direction Neutral also works fine. The problem is when I change the gears car does not move and when I press the gas pedal rpm goes to 3 to 4 thousand and car starts moving with a huge jerk. This happens both reverse and drive gears. Any help would be really appreciated. Car is 1993 Mazda 626 and has done 226000 kms.

How do I fix the transmission problem? The car is moving forward at neutral, drive and low gear, and switching to parking mode at reverse and parking. The car is not backing up at all.

Transmission may now be toast since you continued to drive it when maybe low on fluid or torque converter had failed. How long since last fluid and filter change? Ever?

It sounds like the linkages have let go. If this is the case, then drive it to a repairer straight away. If you turn the vehicle off you might not get it started again.

I was wondering if you can help me out, I have a 1992 Nissan Terrano 3Lt V6 4x4, its just an old farm truck, Well today I was driving it down the paddock and all of a sudden it wont move in any gear,...

If it is an automatic, and absoloutely no movement it sounds like the torque convertor has failed. Either impellor or turbine. If it is a manual the clutch may have gone. If it is a manual, place it in gear and get a friend to rock the car back and forward. See if you notice any movement of the harmonic balancer/belts in the engine bay?

Vehicle stuck in park will not change gears. Will start fine

does the gear shifter move? if the gear shifter moves and it wont shift then you have broken linkage, if it wont move you may have ignition linkage problems or the button may not be pushing in all the way, also the brake pedal is tied in too

Transmition stuck in drive

sounds like shifter cable busted... pop the hood and look at drivers side, have another person move the shifter so you can locate the cable... then find the arm coming off the transmission move it all the way one direction it will be either park or low range and that should get you moving again...
