SOURCE: 1997 ford taurus have to give it gas to start it

From your description of the problem The first thing that comes to light is the idle air control valve.
This devise is mounted near the throttle body and controls the airflow past the throttle plate when the throttle is closed.
There isn't a position sensor on itso if it becomes sticky it won't turn on your check engine light.
It's a fairly common problem. I have tried in the past to free them up but it never seems to work out well.
Hope this helps you along to a repair.

If you didn't change one spark plug wire at a time then you may have your firing order off...

Please pick your motor...front or rear wheel drive...

SOURCE: How to put head gasket on 1999 FORD TOURS

If you do not want to buy a manual (and if you do buy one, i recommend Haynes), you can get a free one by logging on to and registering. Add your car to your garage and they let you use online manuals similar to a Haynes' or Chilton's with diagrams. i cannot say for certain how good it will be, though, as i have had some good and some not as good experiences with their manuals. But, hey, for free? It is at least worth a look.

i hope this is helpful

I replaced my head gasket on my 2000 Ford Taurus ses would I need to get them pressure tested

As long as you followed the proper procedures, and torque sequence, not sure why you would want to run a compression test. If the engine has not been run, remove the spark plugs, squirt some oil into the cylinders, say an ounce, Install plugs, and try starting. You may have to do some valve adjusting. The oil helps create a seal for better compression upon start up for the first time after performing this repair. Also a good idea to prime the oil pump prior to starting.

Coolant and oil leak

have a compression test done as the bubbles suggest a blown head gasket or cracks. That will account for the overheating. The oil leak may be from the head gasket or cracks.

check those fuses to make sure they are not burnt out, If all are O.K i hope you did not heat it to much and warp the head or blow head gasket.

the head gasket is on the engine higher than the oil pan so if the leak is not were the head meets the cylinder block and running down towards the bottom of the motor then the head gasket is not the problem.if the leak is only around the oil pan area and slightly above it then its probably the oil pan that is leaking.fluid leaks travel backwards or downwards not up.

1999 windstart upper intake gasket problems maybe?

sounds like an intake leak or a vacuum leak , would start it and spray like carb cleaner or starting fluid on the top of the motor while it is cool not hot and see if you get a rise or fall in rpm,s if it does get a response chase down the vacuum leak, if not it is probally the intake gasket
