Question about 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer
If your intake air control valve is sticking, your car will rev to 3000 to 4000 rpm and drive down the road at about 50 mph with out touching the gas pedal. It is next to the throttle valve and is held on bu three small screws. New it is $450, used Probably $40. However if the throttle body is just dirty. Remove the hose from the air cleaner to the throttle body and hose it down with throttle body cleaner. You may have to drive it and repeat the procedure a second time. But you should not have to do more than remove the rubber tube and spray it holding the flap open. You may want to supplement this cleaning with a bottle of Chevron Techron in the gas tank to clean the rest of the fuel system and engine.
