Question about Chevrolet 1500

1 Answer

Our 1989 Chevrolet 1500's license plate lights do not work. We replaced the lamps as well as the bulbs & they still do not work. Possibly due to the same problem, when we turn on the headlights, they are only bright. We are unable to dim the lights. Please help! Thanks!

Not sure if that has a multifunction switch or not, but if it has a plastic piece at the top and the bottom of the steering column, that switch is probably shorting out.

You should be able to access the bulbs by unscrewing the license plate lamp housing. Its typically held in place by a couple screws, then you remove it and pull the bulb out of the socket and replace.

Tag light is not working. is there a fuse that will get the light turned back on?

The fuse labeled REAR PARK LP 15A in the right instrument panel fuse box powers the rear park lamps, and the tag lamps. If your rear park lamps are working then you most likely need to replace the tag lamps (bulbs). Use the following procedure to replace the lamps.

To Remove:
  1. Remove the two mounting screws from the license plate lamp.
  2. Remove the license plate lamp from the rear bumper fascia.
  3. Remove the license plate lamp socket by turning it counterclockwise.
To Install:
  1. Install the license plate lamp socket by turning it clockwise.
  2. Position the license plate lamp to the rear bumper fascia.
  3. Install the license plate lamp mounting screws.
