1996 pontiac grand am ac will not work

Ok this should be pretty easy... need a little more info... when you switch the control to AC ..have the engine at idle and listen for a "clicking" noise which is the AC clutch. If you are hearing that click and the ac is just not cold ... that is one thing. If you aren't hearing the clutch engage that is another ... so let me know and I can help you with either one, and we'll have it blowing cold it no time at all!

A/C compressor on 95 astro van does not engage at all.

There are a few reasons for the compressor not engaging. Lets start with the most common. low ac gas.A bad clutch on the compressor.Blown fuse.
Let is start with testing for low gas. (134a freon).Locate the dryer. this is on the passenger side of engine compartment. it looks like a tall cylinder, on the top side you will see a switch. unplug switch connector and jump the two terminals in connector with a piece of wire, this is the low pressure or cycling switch. you will be completing the circuit by jumping a wire across the terminals. If the compressor turns on when connectors are jumped then you are low on gas and the system needs recharging.
If the compressor does not urn on then check all fuses, if fuses are good then the next step is to go to compressor and test for power and ground. If you have power and a good ground on the connector to compressor then compressor clutch is bad.A bad clutch will some times blown fuses, so if you replace the fuse because it was blown and it blows again then clutch is bad.
Another test that will help is when you remove the connector from the cycling low pressure switch , test the connector. one wire on the connector should have power when ac is turned on,
Hope this helps let me know what the outcome is. Good day.
I have enclosed a picture of the switch and dryer to help you locate it.If you jump the terminals

Air conditioner not working on 1993 bonnevile, compressor not engaging, charge good, power at low pressure switch, switch is closed, need to know what turns a/c relay for compressor clutch on, clutch...

the ECM supplies the ground circuit for the a/c clutch. the high pressure switch also needs to be closed to engage the clutch. when the low pressure switch and the high pressure switch are closed that completes the power circuit to trigger the relay.then the power on the #30 terminal can connect to the #87 terminal to send power to the a/c clutch.

1996 pontiac grand prix a/c. Will the clutch turn if there is no freon in it?

No. The AC clutch will not engage if the freon is low. Or it may also be your low pressure switch is bad.

Look at the compressor pump when it is stopped, in front of the puley is a clutch like affair, start the car and look to see if this clutch is spinning if it is your compresor is engaging. Also most times you will hear a change in engine sound when thecompressor engages

AC clutch does not engage

hi..
this is because of the linkages which engage the AC cluth when you switch on the Ac.
these linkages may be worn out which protecs them to engage.
try mending these linkages.
