TURN OFF RADIO DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE FIRST. THEN YOU COULD DISCONNECT MANUAL SHIFT LINKAGE ON SIDE OF TRANSMISSION KNOCK IT OUT OF GEAR.BUT IF STEERING WHEEL NOT IN STRAIGHT HEAD POSITION WITHOUT A KEY YOU COULD DAMAGE THE AIR BAG COIL IN HORN PAD AND PROBABLY DAMAGE KEY LOCK CYLINDER AND RACK IN STEERING COLUMN.BEST TO GET KEY MADE BECAUSE YOU GOING TO NEED IT TO CRANK CAR.

Getting the other key made for your car is the best option. But yes there is a procedure to move the car without key.
Its not too easy, but it can be done:--
Get under the car after blocking the wheels so it wont roll find the transmission. There is a cable running to the side of the trans with whats going to look like a switch and a lever dis-connect the cable and push the lever till it clicks twice then push away this will put the car in neutral then once you get it where you want it. push the lever in to park again and attach the cable.
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Check timing belt. Remove the oil filler cap and look at the rocker arm. If you get someone to turn the engine while you watch and you see no movement... it's a broken belt. If you see movement, perhaps the belt has slipped. Replace belt and re time.

When i try to move my 1998 chevy cavalier from park to drive, it either stops at neutral or stays stuck on reverse or park, but the lever still moves back and forth it just wont shift gears.

Checked the cable from the shifter to the transmission? They often stretch or break & become difficult to move Or fail to move lever on transmission properly.

1998 chevy cavalier and i cant seem to get any fire to plug wires

Your going to have to get it scan for a code. There are to many things that can shut the car down, but you can try checking the crankshaft sensor for bad or broken connections. Good luck and hope this helps

Car wont turn over

Sounds like you have a bad starter. To check this you can try taking a hammer to the starter and tap it while someone in the car turns the key. If it starts you know you have a bad starter and need to replace it. Hope this helps you out
