Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
I need to replace my radiator on my cobalt ss, does the front facsia need to come off what are the steps?
Whoa. The best thing for you to do is get a Haynes Manual from your local part store as to this will show you the steps (along with pictures), to remove and replace your radiator as well as coolant amount and other things to do when replacing it. A little secret for you: When you open up the petcock on the bottom of the old radiator, Leave the Radiator Cap on and your coolant recovery jug will empty out first. Then remove the radiator cap and remove the rest. This procedure will keep you from pulling your coolant recovery bottle off separately with old coolant in it.
Most new radiators require you run distilled water through your cooling system first to get their warranty, but if you go to the Prestone site, it will explain the cleaners as well as other useful pointers in adding the proper amount of coolant. Most people don't know that if you use a 50/50 mix of Dex-cool® anti-freeze (the orange kind, and mix it with distilled water (instead of tap water), you'll never get corrosion in your radiator again for tap water has minerals in it that slowly deteriorate your aluminum parts, whereas distilled water doesn't. I Hope this has Helped,
PS. The Haynes Manual for your Vehicle is #38017. This will help in calling around to see if they have your manual. (smile)
