Is it an interference or noninterference engine? Think timing chain has broke

Broken timing chain is a very large problem, if it happened while engine is running. Bent/broken valves and such. Makes a LOT of noise, and engine stops immediately.

Your question doesn't include make/model/year, so your question isn't possible to answer. Doesn't really matter, though, if your timing chain broke. That's pretty rare. Timing belt, yes. Chain, no.

TIMER BELT BREAKING

I am assuming you mean timing belt as these cars did not come stock with timer belts. You need to get a timing belt and fix it. Just hope that when the belt broke you did not bend any valves as that will be costly to fix.

Low miles per gallon in1996 Camry

its in limphome. (lots of reasons)

are you in usa is car a usa car?
if yes, it has 0BD2 compliant engine brain

so is the CEL lamp, on, key on, and does the lamp go out running???????
if the lamp glows, running that means it's unhappy, and big unhappy
is called limphome and horrid MPG.
EVER?
1: tune it up, why not>, spark parts, filters. this decade?
2: ever to a 60k full tune up,with timing belt or are you waiting for the belt to break and engine GRenades ! (bent valves and a $1500 fix.
or more..... damage is unlimited, in truth.
the belt is $25
the belt can slip and get poor MPG, just before it slips more and BOOM.
kiss off a good engine.

do the 60k mile service with timing belt. and win, I promise.

Engine stalled at about 30 miles hour now i have been told by garage it broke timing belt

If you really did break a timing belt while driving at 30 MPH, you would have also heard a lot of bad noises coming from the engine and are looking at a large repair bill to repair engine damage.

MPG has dropped

Air filter? And any car I have ever owned with a timing belt has shown a noticeable drop-off in MPG when the belt had some miles on it. I would do what you have done but added (or at least eyeballed) the air filter. If that didn't bring it back, the timing belt was next since it doesn't take hardly any stretching to throw off the valve timing and it is critical to performance and MPG.

Timing belt Broke are valves worped?

Hello momma_green: My name is Roger and I will help you. The 2005 Chevy Aveo 1.6 engine is a interference motor. That means if the timing belt breaks. The valves will be bent. I have one in my shop now that the belt broke on it. Bent all 16 valves and damaged all 4 pistons. This is not a forgiving motor. I wish I could tell you good news but I cant. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
