Bad master cylinder would be my first guess. also check if the fluid reservoir is empty, check if the rear wheel cylinder leaking. check if the front calipers are leaking also check the bleeder valves on the calipers and rear wheel cylinders to make sure they are not leaking. if everything is looking good top off brake fluid level and bleed the brakes.

What to do if the brake light comes on, and the brakes are all of a sudden mushy?

If you are not good with working on cars, Bring it right down to a repair shop.Do not wait.
Any car repair shop that does tires or breaks or any work should be able to help you out.
Have it checked out, if you have fluid leakage or no breaks or sometime of grease oil on breaks, you can get into trouble driving.
Very bad.

Brake and e brake warning lights stay on happen when i blew a brake line.

If brakes are mushy then you still have air in the lines.Did you bleed all 4 wheels?have wife push brake pedal down once and hold then bleed hold down one and bleed and so on if this has a quick takeup master cylinder pumping 3 or 4 times then bleed wont work

When I step on the brakes I hear a hissing sound. The breaks ar mushy and the RPMs increase when I am in park and I step on the brakes.

That sounds like the power brake booster unit is faulty and it will require replacing the power brake booster unit to repair the vehicle. Also, check to see if there are any vacuum lines running to the brake switch(s) on the brake pedal lever that might have come loose or are damaged.

Power steering is weak and pump is whining, also the brakes are a little mushy. Is there a booster pump that affects both of these? Fluids seem fine.

If your power steering is whining you may just be low on power sterring fluid. I would check that first. If that is good your power steering pump may be on its way out.

There is a power brake booster in your system, but that should not affect if your brakes feel "mushy". I would look at the master cylinder, you probably need a new master cylinder they have a tendency to leak fluid past the seals as they age giving your pedal a mushy feeling. I woould also check your brake lines on each wheel to see if one might be leaking, this will give you a mushy feel as well. I doubt that is the case if you aren't loosing fluid however.

Why would my brakes freeze up on my 2000 bmw 528i when it is cold out

Are you talking about the whole brake system freezing up or just the pads and pistons?

If you are talking about the whole system then you might have got condensation built up in your break system and that made the brake fluid freeze. Also it is possible that something could of broke with the cold temperatures.

Otherwise you get water, ice and dirt in them and then the cold temperatures freeze them up.

Are your brake stiff or mushy?

If they are mushy you may need to bleed the breaks and check all the pads, discs and drums if you have them. You could of also sprung a leak in the system.

Good Luck,

How does the Brake Fluid Level Look? You need to get the Brake System Bled and Could also need to Replace your Pads.

Front brakes feel mushy after being replaced

You have air in your break lines. The two ways you can solve this problem is have the breaks blead to get the air out of the lines, or you can take the top of the break reservoir and pump your breaks to the floor. DONOT DO THIS With the car moving. What this will do is force the air to the reservoir.
