If the alternator is charging and the battery isn't, the battery must be shot. get the electrolytic fluid tested, one of those floaty ball things, they work great, test the battery,, one dead cell, no good, make sure the connections are clean, it won't charge up with dirty connections, check the voltage, it should read 13+ volts at any time. If not, well you already know it isn't charging, so, check it anyway. Walmart will test your battery for you for free, If you don't want to mess with it. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Battery dosn't charge, alternator/voltage adapter test's good.

Did you test the Alternator on or off the truck? It might be a problem with the control system to the Alternator. The regulator need a battery feed to work, It is usually ran through an alternator fuse.

SOURCE: replaced alternator and battery is good but not charging

I found the problem YEAH. It was the fuse that is in the side of the fuse box under the hood, Its where the battery wire from the alternator connects thru a fuse to go to the battery, Its one hundred and something volt fuse. It took care of the problem instantly.... Thank you all for your replies...

SOURCE: 97 ford explorer alternator connector has 2 wires

there is a fuse in the output line of the alternator, but the colors you describe don't sound right, the only way you could find if one of these wires is ground would be to connect a multi-meter or battery continuity tester to ground and touch each wire(make sure battery is disconnected first) with the other lead and see if its grounded

Hotrod, Recheck, clean and tighten all connections. If you say you had new alternator tested and is working OK, the new battery must be defective. With the van running, use a DVO meter and check the battery, if it shows above 14 volts then the alternator is OK, a good battery should show 12.4, that leaves either a faulty battery not holding a charge or you have a parasitic draw(something draining battery). Which would have to be diagnosed by a good Tech.

Why would the alternator test good off the truck but not charge

check the wiring on the vehicle to and from the alternator. Usually, the alternator needs excite voltage or it won't charge. Also, There is a circuit from alternator to battery, if something wrong with that circuit, the battery won't be charged even though the alternator is working fine.

What is model year? I don't know if your alternator is computer controlled?

The battery is not charging and is bringing up codes P0621 and P0622 indicating a generator field circuit problem. Is this fixable? What do I do?

The alternator is fielded/grounded by the PCM. You need wiring schematics. Check continuity between the alternator and PCM for the field wire. If it is good, the PCM has lost the ground for the alternator(if not, fix or run a new wire). You can fix it two ways. First replace the PCM and have it programmed to the car. This cost money and it will turn the battery light off. Second, is to cut the field wire close( give yourself room to work) to the alternator, add wire to it and ground it to the engine(making sure the engine has a ground strap to the body). This may or may not turn the battery light off. But it will charge the battery.

Alternator isn't charging the battery, the battery is good and holds a charge the alternator tests out good too. ground wires are grounded, fuses seem good. Running out of ideas to look for here.

Taking in all you said here, The alternator is bad. The alternator should be tested when is hot. 95% of the time-- when an alternator is checked cold, it wiil pass as good. CHANGE your alt. it will take care of your problem.

After changing alternator and voltage regulator. Still not charging. 2nd $15.00 regulator replacment

Check your battery and check the ground wire from battery. Make sure all your wires are clean and good connections. A bad battery will not charge and a dead battery will not charge a alternator maintains a battery not charge a battery, so charge your battery completely before checking that the alternator is working. Check all the wires going to the starter for good tight and clean connections . Hope this helps...

Battery not charging - have had alternator and battery checked and both are good. suspect regulator in computer, but do not know how to verify this

Nope , voltage regulator is inside alternator.
Does your charge light come on , if not , I suspect a broken ground wire or strap at the alternator.
No ground = no charge and no warning light.

New alternator didn't charge battery. (2VDC

As the car re-started, the battery is not flat.
The voltages measured indicate a problem with either the power or ground connection in the circuit between the alternator and the battery.

You likely have a intermittent / poor ground connection somewhere in the power system.
Check battery terminals are clean and firmly attached.
Check battery cable and alternator ground connections are intact and in good order.
