I don't believe replacing the intake manifold gasket is going to help with it running hot. Try replacing the Thermostat and if that fails look at your water bump and possibly low radiator fluid.

Why is water getting in my oil in my motor?


I think you blew a head gasket or broken head this is a big proble n costly did u get it hot n does it start n if it start will it run good because if it start n runs good it could be the intake gasket that why water mixing with the oil but n if it doesn't start or it start n run fought you have a bad head gasket or broken head good luck

I have a 92 grand marquis that runs hot. I changed the intake gasket, water pump, thermostat,and all the hoses. I also flushed it out multiple times. I notice the heater core was leaking so i bypassed it...


Is the Exhaust Converter 12 years old or more & blocked ?

Is the timing chain worn & timing off ?

Do you loose coolant ,if so do a combustion gas test
at the coolant fill cap

Replaced thermostat,intake gasket,still building pressure and overheating


either the plastic pulley has come loose on the water pump or the heads gaskets gone ,either way this is not a easy fix sorry but best advice i can give is to ask a local mechanic to have a look to confrm my suspicions ,new on and 20 something people killed by a gunman ? about time they had europeon style gun laws in the good old US i think

2003 cadillac deville with codes po171& po174 system lean codes.found that the intake bolts were loose tighten intake down and problem still exsist. next im gonna try and replace the heated o2 sensor...


Don't replace the sensors. they are good. You still have a vacuum leak. This is the most common cause for both codes coming up at the same time. Check all the hoses and the evap system hoses. If they all check out fine , then I would replace the intake manifold gasket. Being it had loose bolts, when you tightened them down you could have cracked the gasket. One way to check the gasket is to start the engine and spray WD40 around the gasket. if the engine runs better or revs alittle then the gasket is bad for sure.

HI, ok lets address each issue as your asked 1. Timing belt: since this engine uses a timing chain and it runs fine for the most part its unlikely to be the cause. 2. Ignition module: well the module not only sends the signal for spark timing but it also uses another signal for the fuel injectors. Since these ignition modules are very sensitive to heat the module may fail only when it is hot. So yes it could be the ignition module. 3. A fuel problem: Because you have fuel that sprays a foot high does not mean it has proper pressure. think of it as a garden hose the water flows out the end of the hose normally but when you place your thumb over the hose it squirts harder. You are trying to release the fuel from a much larger fuel rail threw a small shrader valve. Electric fuel pumps are little motors turning at very high rpms. when they get hot after use they draw more amperage and produce less volume and pressure. So yes fuel could be the issue. 3. Injectors clogged: Your right unlikely but you may want to do a resistance check of the injectors while cold then one while hot. You may find even one shorting out after it gets hot and this will shut down the whole bank of them. 4. Crank sensor: the crank sensor sends a pulse to the DIS module the ECM then controls the demand for fuel and timing. These crank sensors are prone to cracking and letting oil wick into the sensor apply heat and it can raise the resistance and make the sensor fail till it cools. So yes the crank sensor can cause this type of no start. 5. Cam sensor: no this model 3.1 did not use a cam sensor. 6. Intake gaskets: this would have to be one very large leak when hot. you could try pouring oil over the intake gasket area while cranking and see if it fires over. The oil is should be heavy and thick enough to seal it for a short time or show where it sucks it in. a few things you over looked are the importance that the temp sensor and TPS sensor play during a hot start. If the ECM thinks that the engine is cold it uses injector pulse like a choke on a carburetor. Good luck on your adventure I hope this has helped.

Hi Tim,
Please check that there is no leakage in your water cooling system. If there is leakage, it causes the engine to heat up and burnup the gasket. You need to make sure your thermostat is also reset properly depending on the weather condition in Maine.

2002 Kia Spectra vacuum leak


In order to troubleshoot this, you must start with a clean engine wipe down.


The major offender parts are


air intake gasket on the manifold

air tube after the mass air flow sensor

rubber seal under idle air control IAC motor

Warm up the engine for 15-20 minutes (LEAVE THE engine at idle) then spray a little Barmen carburetor clear on the potential air leak location (ONE AT A TIME) and listen for a surge in rpm.

If the engine speed go higher that's mean the carburetor cleaner (ADDITIONAL FUEL) got into your engine and that's the gasket you need to change.

There may be multiple leaky spots so take your time and check all rubber gaskets,sensor and hose that are lead into the intake manifold.

When you finish fill up with one tank of Chervon to clean out the injectors.


Try to get a toque wrench and tighten ever bolt on the valve cover back to specification. If you can not get hold of one then just give each bolt a gentle 1/6 turn.

1998 gmc 4x4 runs poorly and sounds like a vacume,air leak .


The 5.0l and 5.7l all have this problem at some time.The lower intake gaskets are bad.and are sucking air which will cause the eng. to idle high and sound like like there is a cylinder or two that are not firing and you also may loose antifreeze.The upper intake is black/plastic and the lower is aluminum.Tightening the lower intake bolts may seem to help but once the gaskets are blown,they need to be replaced.If its sucking more air through the bad gasket than the TBI it will not get the right air to gas mixture.Check that all vacuum hoses are in good shape and the vacuum line that runs from the top of the upper intake to the brake booster is sealed good in the intake.Hope this gives you a better idea.

hello your intake gasket is most likely leaking internally into your engine.pretty common problem.the plastic and silicon gaskets get weak over time.
