In an automatic transmission, the dipstick should be located around back of the engine. You let the engine run to normal operating temp. and you check the fluid level, add as needed. You add through the dipstick tube with a funnel. Hope this helps.

The 2004 does not have a dipstick. Pontiac went to a sealed transmission. There is a bolt on the tranny that must be removed (car must be elevated and level...ie on a lift). The fluid level should be up to the bolt hole. if not, there is a filler cap on the back of the engine (right side between the engine and right wheel well). Using a long necked funnel add tranny fluid until it starts to flow out of the bolt hole. Replace filler cap and bolt hole bolt.

Where is the transmission dipstick on 1998 Pontiac Sunfire?

This model doesn't have a trans dipstick. To check trans fluid level there is a plug on the right side/passenger side above the transmission pan about 2 to 3 inches. The plug has an 11 or 12 mm head on it. Remove this plug while vehicle is running and at operating temperature if fluid comes out of the where the plug was then the level is adequate. To add transmission fluid there is a red or black plastic cap on top of the transmission on the driver side. You will need a transmission funnel to add to it if fluid is need.

ABS light comes on in a 1996 pontiac sunfire

usually that means your low on brake fluid, check and add first, also make sure the cap is screwed on and secure. If the light still is on, try shutting off traction control if you have it, drive on some gravel and see if you can hear your brakes winding.
I have a 99 pont bonneville, abs light was on, fluid was full, took off my front two tires, there is a sensor i cleaned out with contact cleaner, and it worked. hope this helps.

Cant find dip stick for tranny fluid 2004 sunfire

GM went to sealed transmissions. That car doesn't have a transmission dipstick.

There's a fill bolt that needs to be removed from the transmission while the car is on a level surface. If transmission fluid comes out, then you're at the proper level. Otherwise fill until fluid starts to come out. (Similar to what would be done on a manual transmission)

Look at the top of the transmission for a little red cap(like the oil fill cap) this is where you add fluid. If you want to check fluid condition, you need to remove cap and stick something in there and smear the fluid on a piece of paper to see color.

Hope this helps you out

How to check transmision fluid on standard 2004 cavilier

I believe the transmission on the 2004 Cavalier is the same on the Pontiac Sunfire and I hate to tell you this but you don't check it. It says in the book that you drain the oil and add the proper amount and then call it good. I never did think it was a good idea on these cars but they don't seem to have a lot of problems. I would watch very carefully for any leaks though coming from that area of the transmission.

Thank you for your help. Raised the vehicle started it. Removed the plug on passenger side of driveshaft where it joins the transmission. The head of this plug is 7/16 inch. Fluid Streamed out showing it was full.

Where to check/put in transmission fluid in 2005 Pontiac Sunfire

I assume this is an automatic transmission, you didn't say.
There is no dip stick on the transmission any longer.
You will have to go under the car to check. You may want to go to your local instant oil change and have them check the level.
If you feel you want to check it, here is a description of the location and process.

Make certain the vehicle remains level while checking the fluid.
Located just above the top sealing flange of the transmission oil pan you will find a threaded plug. Remove the plug and see if transmission fluid drips out of the hole. If so, the fluid level is correct. If not, remove the red fill cap on top of the transmission, driver side. Add fluid to the transmission until fluid dribbles out of hole.
Replace and tighten the plug.
Good luck.

1998 SUNFIRE GT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

There are 3 transmissions that could be in your car,the 3 speed auto and 4 speed auto overdrive, and of course the manual 5 speed. The 3 speed is designated the 3T40,the 4 speed auto is the 4T40E trans. To check the fluid level, first, the car has to be warmed up to at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The car has to be raised in the air,as there is a steel plug in the trans case that has to be removed to check the fluid level. The plug takes an 11 mm or 7/16" socket or wrench and is located on the passenger side of the trans case, near where the passenger side axle engages into the trans. The procedure is to warm the car up to at least 100 degrees, engage the shifter into each gear selection pausing for about 5 seconds in each gear, then remove the plug.If fluid drips out,it is full.If no fluid drips out,add fluid through the top of the trans after removing the red plastic cap,and make sure to use a long funnel to avoid a mess.Add fluid until it drips out the hole. When done, replace the plug and cap.Just a note,a transmission does not "use" fluid like an engine uses oil.If you have to add fluid, that means there is a leak that needs to be repaired.Good luck
