Question about Hyundai Elantra

1 Answer

My 03 Hyundai Elantra is overheating. When I look under the hood the fan on the right hand side was not working. I can only drive til the car gets warm then the temperature goes right up to H. The fluids are all full. Also when I try to put the air on its hot.

How do I do that? I know I sound really dumb, but I don't know anything about cars and trying to get out of this the cheapest way possible.

Probably the best way is to ask a friend\neighbour.

Either that or a mechanic is going to have to fix it, there is definately a problem that needs fixing. and unfortunately even if money is tight ,if it is not fixed , driving it will destroy the engine in a short time. When it over heats it can damage the head ,head gasket or make the engine smokey, which will cost a lot more than the initial overheating repair

I could go into great lenght explaining how to change a belt, waterpump, radiator or thermostat. but you still may not be able to fix it yourself.

As well as fuses there are relays in the under hood fuse box. They are square and about an inch and a half high. Make sure they are seated OK.

I cannot find the blower motor resistor, there is no black box under the hood on the passengers side and its not under the dash? the blower was working fine then started making a lot of noise and quit, the...

Heater motor Resistors are usually built into the heater motor housing, plastic box under dash, if its a right hand drive it will be under the left hand side if its a left hand drive it will be under the right hand side. When you say the motor tested ok how did you test it, resistors are not noisy when they fail. The resistor only controls the speeds of the blower motor/fan and when they fail they usually only fail on one circuit so the blower usually still works on either slow or fast speeds.

My temp gauge says hot and fan comes on but engine is not hot and now steam is coming from under hood and water is bubbling in the bottle!! is a ford mondeo 16v zetec 2.0 no loss of power at all and bonnet...

the thermostat is stuck closed and not allowing the water to circulate the fans are coming on beacuse it knows the car is overheating.

although there is water in the engine it is not getting around to cool the engine down, do not drive the car as the head gasket will blow.

I would check the thermostat first but it could be a few things, most likely thats the issue.
