Question about 1996 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

Got fuel and juice but no spark!!!!!!!!!

96 stratus 2.5L- its simple-i had to replace almost all gaskets and when I put it back together i got fuel and juice but NO SPARK!!!!!!!! i put in a newer PCM from a 98 but same everything else and i had to slice all the wires and match colors for the 2 plugs, and a newer TCM (that came with and from the same PCM) and a newer ABS module (also came from the same 98 the PCM and TCM they left the 98 2gether and are now in my 96 together so in theory the calibration should be ok right?) also i spliced in the ABS plug, now am i wrong anywhere here by doing this is this why i have no spark?

You got it wrong the pcm doesn't give spark just adjusts spark timing, check wiring at cam or crank sensors, recheck all the grounds and for power to coil, you should find it

in usa this engine is L34 or U20SED
i guess you are working with no scan tool????
that be super hard, to out guess the EFI system.
we cant see electrons so.. tools make the man.
DOHC engine
if there is no spark times 4, did you check all 4?
After all 1 cylinder or all 4 can fail. telling the
mechanic big clues
if sparks ok test fuel works (sprayed).
is the timing belt under 60,000 miles new?
if the belt slips compression x4 drops radically.

head off, well i think this is an interference engine.
its DOHC, so if you bent the valves by driving until the belt slipped, oops, you killled the head.

funny thing is no history here
am I to guess, engine died? and the head was removed
was the head tested, when off?
new head, rebuilt head,
check for warp
and do the valve test with I use kerosene
in the combustion chamber to see if the valves are not bent, if bent the fluid leaks to the ports.
oldest test on earth this, 100 years. old.
and more, take it to a machine shop (head)
and get it pressure tested, etc>> now that be savvy.

How do you properly replace spark plugs in a 96 dodge stratus?

pull off plug grabbing it as close to spark plug as you can. Using socket rotate counterclockwise and remove plug. Be careful putting plugs back in and thread by hand first. Then torque as plug box says as it depends on if you have a washer or not.

If it was running fine, till you replace the valve cover gasket, then fuel pump and filter is not the trouble, check make sure all elec. wires are connected, ground wires also.

There may be a ground wire that you forgot to put back or a power wire that give power to the coils. Re-check all electrical wiring and make sure they are all connected. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA
