Wow, if the main crankshaft pulley is off, that's pretty hard to do.
but, I'll take your word for it.
I think that it's more likely that the accessories attached to the engine are not aligned to the crankshaft pulley.
Look for problems with the serpentine tensioner pulley, if you have the serpentine belt.
Look for stuck pulleys as well, that can make a belt break as the crankshaft forces the belt to try to turn the stuck pulley.
