The switch itself is malfunctioning. Remove the fan switch. You will find that the switch is shorting and melting. It is a common problem. It's called the blower fan control switch.

Yes, this is a common problem not only on this vehicle but also on many Chevrolet products. The best solution is to completely replace the fan switch. You can try taking the old one out and taking it apart piece by piece...it is possible to do so if you are mechanically inclined and then use a heavy duty scratch pad...available in grocery stores...they are dark green in color and come as a package of about 4 rectangular pieces. Use the pads to clean the dirty, corroded and gummed up surfaces of the contacts inside the switch. If you are careful you can put the switch back together and it will be fine for a long time again...but...if you mess up and can not do all this tedious work then buy a new one or get one with little use on in from a junk yard...the latter is what I did and it has been fine for the last 2 years.

Fan motor on a 2000 Chevy Malibu only works on 3-5 and not on 1 & 2. How to fix?

Its the blower motor resistors or the switch itself.
You need shop manual. Then remove the switch and jump certain terminals with a jumper wire to see if fan runs at certain speeds. If fan runs at all speeds when jumped then the switch is your problem . if it runs at the speeds you described in your write up then its the resistors.

There is a modulator under the dash on the passanger side.It controls the fan speed.I don,t have 5 so when I changed the part it worked.1 and 2 are common. Its worth a try.Its near the cabin filters

2000 silverado, The blower doesent work on #1 or #2 but 3,4 & 5 do work. What is the problem??

Probably has a bad blower resistor. Resistor is most likley burned out on the #1 and #2 speeds, but okay on the rest.

The fan in my truck only turns on on high speed.

A bad blower motor resistor will cause it. It is located ny the blower motor p.s. below dash.

2000 Chevy Malibu blower motor doesn't work on positions 1 & 2. Would appreciate details on how to fix or change it.

remove dash insulator from under glove box. then move bcm to one side, fan resistor is beside the fan blower motor. the resistor will keep fan speeds from working. remove wiring and screws from resistor then take it out.

MY heater fan works on 4 & 5 Only on my 2000 Silverado

remove the passenger side lower insulator panel. behind the panel you wil find the blower motor housing. next to the blower motor housing there will be a wiring connector with 6 to 8 wires going in to it. the connector will be held secure with 2 screws. remove the connector and remove the screws -- this is your resistor. reverse the process to re-install.

Heater/ac switch speeds 1 and 2 don not work in 99 Silverado

you need a resister found under your air duct by the passenger floor under dash board auto zone sells these for about 25.00 you may as well buy cabin air filters while your at it . 1 of the screws will be a pain to install back into the duct work I left mine out didn,t make a difference . you might have to order it as they are a comman item oh you will need a vacuum to clean up mess from cabin air filters .this is not a hard job .
