Question about 2007 Ford Focus (3 Door) Hatchback

1 Answer

Snapped a cable in shifter

I have a 2007 Ford Focus. The shifter came loose and when my father went to put it in gear the shifter came off and two wires inside of the shifter disconnected and the red wire (there is also a black wire) snapped in half. It runs fine but I obviously would like to know what that was and what it connects to.

Hi

You have two options….
1. Replace the entire cable, for that you have to contact dealer.
2. Push the plastic end back on the arm of the trans shifter and use two zip ties in a cross patter to tighten it down.

Let us know if you have something more to know else accept the suggestion.
Thank You for contacting Fixya.com

Thanks for the reply. Do you know what the two wires are for? They had a plastic white connector at the end. I could not see what it connected to. I just want to make sure it is nothing dangerous. It runs fine, but it's bothering me not knowing what the wires connected to.

Shifter hard to move thru gears cables are good and free when disconnected hear squeak when shifting

first i would contact ford dealershift to see if any recalls with this problem...The transmission on the 2002 Ford Focus has been having problems shifting gears,The linkage inside the transmission suffers from premature wear, causing difficulty in switching or shifting gears. The transmission bands that wrap around each gear to hold the gears in place are becoming loose, causing the gears to shift harshly. Both problems have been the biggest culprit when the Ford Focus transmission experiences problems shifting gears. The only correction for this shifting problems is to have the transmission replaced or rebuilt.

My 2000 ford focus wont shift. Its not the transmission because I can shift it manually a the transmission. Could this be the linkage?

I think your shifter cable broke go back to the linkage at the trans and find the bracket the cable attaches to and try to pull the cable through if you can it broke that's why I think the shifter lever is now all over the place also go to the bottom off the steering column it may have just come loose at the bracket inside the car good luck Adam you'll find it Stephen

Gear lever loose & wont engage in 06 renault magane manual

Sounds to me that your cable is broke therefor not putting the car in gear. This can happen real easy. Have someone move the shifter for you and look at the side of your trans and see it the cable is moving. If not then you can do a visible inspection of it and see if it is broke.

Car was put in park and would not shift into any other gear, the shifter just slides very loosely into the other gears. It's as if there is no resistence to the shifter when you are trying to shift. I...

sounds more like a gear selector cable.
kick down cable would normally be connected to the throttle somewhere and would not affect the shift lever

2002 ford escape the gear shifter moves freely up and down the column with no resistance what so ever

If the vehicle will not go into gear as well, then the chances are good that the shift cable has become disconnected at the column or the transmission, or it simply snapped

sounds like your shifter cable came off at the transmission or the cable is broke. You hould be able to see the cable on top of the trans. Have some try to shift while you see if the cable moves.
