I have a 91 buick park ave ultra.... And yes it does have an anti theft system. And yes it will cause the car to not run. I am 100% sure of this. My car suddenly broke down a couple weeks ago. When I would put the key in the ignition and attempt to start it, the lights would flash on on the dash but it would not turn over. before i learned of the anti theft system in my car- which is called a VATs system, all buick park aves that are 1991-1996 have one of two systems in it. either the VATs or the PASSkey II system. But before knowing of this system I bought and replaced my starter, neutral safety switch and my ignition switch. all of which failed to correct my problem or make a difference at all. the codes I got when I scanned was 22 TPS low voltage and 31 the PNP switch. After all of this failed a friend asked me about the chip that is on my ignition key. I checked into that and learned of the VATs system which my car has. I came across a website which is this is where i learned what happens when the VATs system malfunctions. it was exactly what was going on with my buick. on this site it gives you easy instructions on how the system works and a fast, easy , and cheap way to bypass the anti theft system. I did what it said to do. it took me 20 min and cost me 40 cents and when i completed the instructions on the car started right up. So check out the website and click on the link for VATs system. and do as it says. It work great. save yourself alot of time, money and frustration. I learned the hard way. So I dont know where the person who replied to this problem and said that this car has no anti theft system is getting their info from.....but they better find a more reliable source ..... I promise you that i am 100% sure that this car does in fact have an anti theft system. good luck MissLD

I have a 1991 parkavenue eng. code L, it has a security light, this has a passkey system that when you try to start the car it wont even turn over, there is a chip inside of the key that has to match up to the passkey box behind the glove box.

99 explorer alarm disables. Motor dies

Anti-theft system can keep vehicle from starting , Alarm is for vehicle content theft , open door without key alarm sounds (horns) ! PATS - passive anti theft system PATS enables and disables the engine from starting ,it will not cause the engine to die ! You have some other kind of problem ! If the vehicle engine doesn't turn over an red light on top of dash flashes fast ,then you have anti-theft system problem !
PATS differs from the perimeter anti-theft system in that PATS enables and disables the engine from starting. If equipped, the perimeter anti-theft system protects the perimeter of the vehicle (doors, hood and trunk) and sounds an alarm.

2001 Escape. Why has the anti-theft system been activated, causing the anti-theft light to flash while starting?

Wrong key , problem with the system , codes stored in the theft module etc... Does the vehicle engine crank but no start ? You need to take to the dealer or a ASE certified repair shop !

I have a 03 cavalier it starts up then shuts back off what causes it

Hi Missy , There are a number of thing's that can cause this . Fuel system problems , ignition system problems , the PCM - powertrain control module , the PCM is the engine computer ! There are multiple sensors on this vehicle as with all cars for the 80's on . From 1996 on they have more electronic modules then before , Anti-theft systems , air bags, anti - lock brakes etc.
Does you car have any lights light on the dash ? check engine ? Security ?. When you first turn on your key the dash lights light up an after 7 seconds the lights should go out , Do they ? You should check for DTC's - diagnostic trouble codes . That means hooking your car up to a scan tool . If it starts an shuts back off right away I would think a anti-theft system problem . If the anti-theft thinks it being stolen it disables the fuel injection in some cases !

Could anti-theft system d mustang cause car to shut off while driving?

Hi, im a retired ford tech, with alot of experience on ford anti theft . Now if you are asking about a built in oem factory anti theft, your not going to be able to bypass it. Now to answer your question, I would say your factory anti theft IS NOT causing your issue. It will make it unable to start,it doesnt kill anything else.

Car dies when I use my remote start and press the lock or unlock button

This is most likely caused by the car's anti-theft system. Most newer cards require a separate module to be installed to override the anti-theft system while the remote start is in use. Otherwise, when the anti-theft system detects an anomaly, it will immobilize the vehicle.
DEI makes a 556H module for this purpose. The link shows the instrall manual for this device.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Did GM reset the anti theft system in your car? If it is going off, it will cause the car to not start.

The anti-theft system, cutting off the fuel system cause it did not recognize my key, started coming on more commonly. Now it just does not turn the engine over. It just makes a click sound when it goes...

Good Evening, your anti-theft is in the ignition. If you go to start the car, then leave the key in the run position when it does not start for about 11- 15mins. Once the security light goes off then turn it off and try starting it. If it does not work you might have to do it a couple more times. What happens is the system relearns your key. Hope that helps,

My theft light is flashing but my 1997 expedition wont start. The vehicle turns over but just don't start.

ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM Passive anti-theft system
Your ignition key has a unique imbedded transponder which engages engine electronics and allows the vehicle to be started. Without the use of your special ignition key, the vehicle will not start.

During each vehicle start, the coded key is read by the anti-theft system. If the key’s ID code matches the code in the anti-theft system, the vehicle is enabled to start.

Anti-theft system
Briefly illuminates when the ignition is turned to the ON position to verify that the passive anti-theft system is operating properly.

Also, its possisble that tou have actovated the fuel pump switch.

CHeck it.
