I have a 1995 Chevy CK1500. The truck would not start the other day and I found that the trans shift cable was broken. I purchased and installed a new cable but now it will not shift(engine not running) from 1st to park. It does shift from park to first(cable is being pulled from the column) With the cable disconnected-I have checked the tranny linkage -it moves easy, the column shifter moves easy, and the cable moves freely. when I connect the cable to the tranny link and the column it will not go from 1st gear to park. Any suggestions??

It sounds like the cable may be mis routed , making it tighter , or just may be to short , return cable and try another, hope this helps

SOURCE: saturn shifter linkage

An easy fix would be to go tothe Junk Yard and pull off the parts you need .......in order to do this though I would advise getting a Haynes Manual (VERY VERY HELPFUL BOOK) for your car...Available at your local Auto parts Store (even if you dont do it yourself you should still get the book...it can save you a lot of time and money when it comes to knowing and working on your vehicle)

SOURCE: 1993 ford f-150 shifter busted

there are several possible ways this can happen, 1 on the transmission there is a cable that comes from the column, check to see that it is attached to the shift selector . This is located under your brake foot under the truck.
Another, on the column, towards the back of it under the dash, this same cable has a plastic cup that snaps on to a metal ball , it might have broke or just popped off.

SOURCE: shift handle moves freely with out shifting trans

The shifter works off a shift cable which is connected to the transmission. The connection of this cable to the transmission is on the drivers side looking straight up were you can see it. The other end connects to the inner part of the shifting mechanisum where you shift
You can only get a replacement at any General Motos dealerships parts department

I have a 1995 Chevy lumina 3.4 v6 automatic transmission my problem is the trans. is not going in to gear the shift tower will move from park to drive and I can fill it engage but the car will not go...

if mean you can feel the gear shift lever engage into position then you should check to see if the cable is moving the neutral switch on the transmission. if not then you may have a broken or out of adjusted shift cable. if the gear shift cable is moving the switch then the problem is in the transmission and will have to be looked into.

My 1995 bmw 740il wont shift into manual drive. im not sure what gear cars in but the trans isnt shifting. both of the cables to the throttle is broken i discovered could that be the problem and what

Service the transmission for the shifting issue. However going from auto to manual is an electrical switch. Car wont shift till car is at high enough rpm level.

How to replace a shift cable on 1995 Chevy Silverado 1500 series

You first need to unhook the shift cable from the top of the gear box , then carefully remove it from the gear liver linkage and follow the reverse step to fix the new one. I am sharing a video of GM hope it will give some refrence .

My 1995 2500 chevy trans shifts good from forward to reverse but don't shift to any higher forward gears sat for a couple months before that no issues this truck has the 6.5 turbo

Thats not good !
I suggest that the truck be started and warmed up a while.
Then try to drive it around a bit in the yard or where ever.
If that doesnt work out the suspected clog, then I would roll under the truck and look to see if something hasn't eatten away at the wire harness for the trans.

You will have to find out what you broke. It may be the cable, or the actual shifter. If you can shift it manually at the trans, you may not have broken anything too major.

I have a 93 Chevy Suburban 1500 and the Transmission won't shift into any gear. I have an 1983 Chevy Suburban Transmission that is still good. Can I use the 83 Transmission in my 93 Suburban?

Not without a little adapting. The 1993 has a 4l60e which is electronically controlled and has shift solenoids. If the 83 is an overdrive it is a 700r4 which is the same trans but not electronic. If you put it in the speedo wont work and you will need to install a T.V. cable so the transmission will shift. The 93 won't go forward or backwards?
