It undoes normal way but its tight as its a taper end on crank and no keyway so dont hammer it off with the starter motor and a big bar locked into the suspension. You will have to use a special tool to lock the crank in position ,the other way i do it when i dont have all the tools is to slacken timing belt and then remove the camshaft ,then i undo it with the big bar and the starter motor ,to do it up without the right locking tool i jam a big screwdriver into flywheel by removing the metal plate on the bottom of the bell housing and jam it up ,the torque on this type of arrangement is something like 150 lbs which is a lot if its not tight enough the pulley can move a bit with use and bang goes a piston and valves ,got the teashirt

2003 hyundai elantra starter removal where are bolts located on the starter

It's bolted to the outer edge of your transmission. If it's a front wheel drive, it may be near the front of the motor, where the engine and motor connect. Should only have two bolts holding it on. Hope this helps!

WHERE IS THE WATER PUMP LOCATED...2003 ELANTRA

hi from uk fortunately the water pump on your car is not driven by cambelt ! the pump is driven by serp belt the pumps location is = if you look at front of engine view from front wing as you look down front you will see a large pully on left of cambelt covers and this is the water pump access to pump is best by supporting car and removing wheel and then the under wing cover that is secured by screws some advice for you if you intend renewing pump the pump pully is secured by 4 bolts use a 10 mm cranked ring spanner or socket loosen these bolts before you remove the drivebelt as belt holds pully and helps to prevent pully turning as you try to loosen these bolts hope this helps ?

Which engine? 4 cylinder (2.4 lit) or V6 (2.7 lit)? Two different procedures as well as different belts. The 4 cylinder also has a balance belt. See next image:
42e8a57.jpg
Here's the 2.7 V6 belt:

44efb27.jpg
The replacement procedure is nearly the same at the start (removing, accy drive belts, pullys, support engine & remove front engine mount, remove T.B covers, disconnect Cam Position Sensor & Crank Position Sensor connectors, etc.). When you get to this point on the V6, you also have to remove the front engine mounting bracket from the front of the engine (4 14mm bolts, also a 12mm bolt which bolts the dipstick tube to the side of it) Put crank shaft at TDC (top dead center w/ALL timing marks aligned) remove hydraulic tensioner (2 12 mm bolts), then remove the belt. You'll need to recompress the hydraulic (auto) tensioner in a vise and insert a retaining pin through the pin-holes at the top (through the tensioner piston) to keep it compressed when you reinstall it. Otherwise, you won't be able to install it. Assembly is reverse order of dissassembly. Inspect your pullys while you're in there (check for pully bearing noise, leaking grease, smooth rotation, also the water pump pully, etc.) Replace components as needed. Careful not to damage Crankshaft Position Sensor wire harness.

The 4 Cylinder is quite different. You not only change the timing belt, but also the countershaft (balance) belt, which is behind the crank position sensor blade. IMPORTANT: ALL TIMING MARKS ALIGNED BEFORE REMOVING ANYTHING) There are two (2) counter-shafts (balance shafts). one driven by the timing belt, the other by the crankshaft sprocket behind the timing belt sprocket at the front of the crankshaft.

Need to change pully

Which One?
60a96c9.jpg The one on the left has two 14mm fasteners 1 nut & 1 bolt. The one on the right has the same 1 14mm nut and 1 14mm bolt. Both are simple to replace. Step 1: Relieve the tension on the pully you wish to replace. Step 2: remove the pully (front) by removing the 14mm nut. To remove the rear tensioner pully, remove both nut & bolt.

Trying to replace alternator on 2003 elantra

After you have disconnected the alternator. You can remove it through the bottom of the car. First you need to unscrew 2 bolts above wheel well that holds the bracket with the shock absorber and coil spring. After the assembly is dropped, you can sway the drive shaft forward and backward. Moving the drive shaft forward will allow you to work the alternator out. Good Luck, CM
