Havent woorked on one of these in years ,used to build them on the assembly line in the 70s ,yes a nikki carb would do fine providing you get the right one ,these vehicles used a non progressive carb ,ie - the first venturi opened then the second one ,also all these engines from the first ones in 1971 have stelite coated valves and valve seats so you can use unleaded fuel of 98 octane in them. The tappet settings were done in the factory with a vacumn gauge and they do suffer from wear under the tappet face but the tappet is heat treated so dont reface them on a grinder ,replace them .tappet settings were if i remember for a gt were 12/14 inlet and 18/21 exhaust but i alway done them to 12 and 16 any tighter and it will drink petrol ,also the timing advance was different it advance a lot more compared to the normal engine, got me going now as i cannot remember the distributor code or the paint code on the thermostat housing on the head ,i do remember they had yellow build cards with GT in teh top right hand corner and heavier flywheels with bigger clutches .thanks for the memory jerker it makes a change from monster american cars on here and auto boxes ,Also built V6 zodiac engines as well as V4 transits

What do they call the engine on a ford escort1.3 L 1984 front wheel drive, looks like the old cross flow motor, motor sits horizontal, radiator in front, electric fan and 32-34 webber carburator.

They call it a Crossflow engine you should also see on the side of the block a number such as 113E or such like number. Cheers, Malcolm Campbell.

I have a Weber carb on a Suzuki samurai. Runs ok but continues to try to run after turning off

this is caused by mixture getting past the idle and being sucked into the combustion chambers and being ignited by the hot spots and combustion pressures
Very common on early english cars and some american cars
The japanese carbies had a solenoid valve that fitted into the idle circuit so that when the ignition was turned off , the solenoid closed off that idle circuit and prevented the problem
you may have to "play " with the idle mixture screws to get a better mix so that the mixture is too rich to run on or change the weber to a model that has the solenoid shut off

How to fix a Weber DGV 2 Barrel Carb. I have a Weber Carb on my Model A Ford. It stalls out when accelerating up a hill. Can you help with where to start adjustments?

Sounds like restricted fuel flow...new correct fuel filter? Air/Fuel mixture...while idling...turn each screw clockwise until slight stall...then back out (counter clockwise) one and a half turns to smooth idle...Hope this helps.

I have a 1990 jeep wrangler yj . 4.2 with a used weber carb 36/32 . it stalls at a stop sign . the vacume lines seam to be hooked up ok the back port above the throttle is caped off the idle mixture s

The idle mixture screws do not control the idle. Is there no idle screw? If you have an anti-dieseling solenoid on the idle screw, make sure it is coming on with the ignition switch and use it to adjust the idle. Set the idle and then adjust the misture screws to maximize intake vacuum at idle. Readjust the idle after adjusting the idle mixture. The port at the back of the carb is not used in all systems. If you have a distributor with vacuum advance, make sure the correct carb post is connected to the distribtor. Adjust the choke and fast idle to engage when the engine is cold.

How to replace the carburetor with a high performance off road weber carburetor.

if you have a down draft carby, you can just buy an adaptor plate to suit a down draft webber if the webber doesn't just bolt on, or if you want to use side draft webbers, you'll need a new manifold too

Vacume/webber problem

Is it the 32/36 weber or the knock off 34/34?

If its the 32/36 then the only vacuum line from the carb goes to the advance on the distributor. If standing in front of engine there should be a nipple on the left side of the carb.

Then there's the vent nipple on the carb. That'll go to the charcoal canister. There should be 3 nipples on it. It'll go to the far right one. If there's nothing on the middle nipple then plug that one.
