Ford did not use a coil pack or a COP ignition system in 1989 for any F-250 5.8l engine, and that engine should have a distributor and an ignition coil. Are you sure it is a 1989 vehicle and engine?

OK. just follow the number on the ignition coils.
And the number on the cylinders are.
The FIREWALL side are 1,3,5, Starting from the belts location.
The RADIATOR side are 2,4,6, Starting from the belts location.
The coil with number 1 go to cylinder 1. as the same way the rest of the coils and cylinders.

OK... I hope this solve your question .

THank you for use fixya.

My 89 f150 quit i have changed fuel filter the coil but it still seem not to have any spark can u help me i have been around cars and trucks my whole life even work in a shop for many years but this has me...

Test the continuity in the coil. Also test the connection end to see if it is getting power to the coil. I have also received bad coil packs from auto parts store , so if its under warranty change it just to make sure . Also, take the tape off the wiring going to the coil pack and check for breaks inthe wiring. Timing issues or crankshafts or crankshaft sensors can cause this. The sensor itself runs $20.00 and up. Hope this helps. Spark plug wires can have breaks in them also.

Can you show me a diagram of which spark plug wire goes to what spark plug on a 89 oldsmobile ciera please.

Standing in front of the car looking at the the coil packs, there are three of them. From left to right, the first coil pack is 1 & 4, the second coil pack is 6 & 3, and the third coil pack is 2 & 5. Now standing in front of the engine, the three cylinders in front of the radiator are 2,4 & 6 starting from the belt side of engine and the ones in the back off engine are 1,3 & 5.

Not getting spark

need more info (need to know what type of ignition system your vehicle has: (1) traditional ignition coil /distributor system, or (2) electronic ignition, but lack of spark problems are usually a faulty coil
on traditional vehicles, and on the newer electronic ignition cars, total lack of spark would be
a faulty ECM (electronic control module) - partial lack of spark (diagnosed with a HEI (high energy ignition) spark tester kit), would be caused by a faulty coil pack (in the waste spark system), where
there's 1 coil pack for every 2 spark plugs.
I bought my HEI igntion testere kit for $20, but Harbor Freight sells a similar unit for $10.
Hope this helps.

No fire mech changed mod on dist what next

Re-check the basics . Does the distributor rotor rotate while cranking?Note: Distributer cap must be removed. Does the vehicle have enough available spark to plugs? Do we have enough fuel pressure 30-35psi min.? With a 12volt test lamp
check for power to fuel injector while cranking. one wire should
remain lit and the other one should blink.
NO ROTOR ROTATION = worn distributor gear,or timing belt failure.
NO SPARK= bad module, coil,no voltage to coil,or faulty PCM

I have a 89 ford e250 5.0 automatic. it has power going to the coil but no spark. it did this the other day and i unplugged it tapped on it then it worked. the ditributer is turning.

the most common failure on this system is the TFI ignition module and the distributor pickup, also the coils are suspect if the outside of the coil is dark or burned looking or the tower under the coil lead is white with a chalky residue, the ign modules failed so much there was a class action law suit on them.I am a 25 year veteran ford dealer tech so have done 100's of these no spark repairs.

Does it have a TFI module on the distributor. A local parts store should be able to test that for you.
