Question about 2007 Dodge Ram Truck

1 Answer

I have a 2007 dodge ram 1500 4x2 auto trans.Just recently ive noticed a vibration coming in at about 52-55 mph seems to be from the rear axle also combined with this is sound akin to having a flat spot on the tire like a pitter patter at wheel speed, not only this there is clungking sound coming from the right rear wheel when taking a tight left hand turn.Ive checked diff fluid level, wheel nuts etc, a friend says it could be a UJ on its way out,any ideas.the truck has only covered 27000 miles.

thank you casmogtech,i have a feeling its a wheel bearing,is there anything i can do to test for this short of taking it apart.I cannot just return it to the dealershp under warranty as im an englishman living in France and i imported the truck from North Carolina!so its not covered by any warranty in France.

Since the problem happens louder as you apply weight to a given wheel I would suspect you have a bad wheel bearing. Having a thump type sound on every revolution is an indicator that its wheel related. Also I have seen the steel tread seperate in a tire causing this same issue. Rotating the tires will take the wheels out of the picture if they are not the problem

the only option is to take it apart or get a second opinion to be sure.

Driving noise, not from bearings

it could be center bearing, if its going bad it can also cause a vibration, make sure you have sufficient fluid in the diff as well, you can also get a noise and vibration from collapsed motor or trans mounts

I have a vibration in my 04 ram 3500 that occurs at higher speeds around 65 mph. I have balanced the tires and removed the front driveline to see if it was the U-joints that were causing the problem but...

I'am supprised you didn't expect this to happen ,when you raised it!

Balance the rear driveshaft ,and adjust your trans and rear pinion angles.
