Question about 2007 Chevrolet Equinox LS New Cars

I have a 2007 Chevy Equinox that has a gas smell noticeable once it is driven. No leak evidence and it has been suggested I check the "gas filler tube vents". Is this a possibility?

Also check your fuel pressure regulator, the fuel rail to fuel line connection end the injectors themselves for signs of leaking. The fuel pressure regulator has a vacuum line connected to the top of it. Make sure this is secure. If the fuel pressure regulator has failed it will allow fuel to enter the vacuum line and this will cause the smell of fuel under the hood. Also make sure that the emission control pipe from the fuel vapour canister has not become disconnected from the intake plenum.

Just had same problem with my 07 equinox. Plastic fuel feed line that attach to fuel pump module was leaking. Had to replace fuel pump. Hard to see leak because it would run down side of tank and drip onto plastic shield and pool between tank and shield. Never did drip on driveway. Luckily under drive train warranty.

We are having the same problem with our 07 equinox. It is in the shop now. They are saying either the fuel pump or the gas tank and it will not be covered under warranty. We bought the car used. Any suggestions?

Depending on your vehicle's in service date and mileage your pump might fall under the 5yr/100k drivetrain warranty. The tank probably wouldn't be covered. Otherwise the pump is pretty expensive to repair on that one.

I am having that same problem with my 2007 equinox, I did talk to a chevy tech and found that the problem is near the gas tank. There is some kind of cansiter that is near the fuel tank that sends the vapor back to the engine. There are plastic hoses that connect this item to the engine. He said that they can come loose are break and will cause that fuel smell. SO check that area if you can get to it.

I have 2007 equinox and was having the same problem. went to mechanic and he sd that gas was leaking from somewhre above the gas tank. took it off and it is a leak in a line coming from the fuel pump.

I had a 1990 Cadillac Deville with a leaky fill tube that smells like gas after I would add gas, and other times, too.

I had the filler tube replaced because it was rusty.

You have a leak somewhere, and I would check the gas cap and the filler tube.

Your car seems like it is kind of new to be experiencing a rust problem, though.

But, maybe there's a loose clamp somewhere or something to this effect.

Good luck on the repair.

A strong smell of petrol means a strong possibility of fire so it is very important to find the cause and cure it.

Any significant leak would leave evidence on a clean smooth floor but if the smell isn't strong when the car is running but stationary and there is no evidence underneath then there is a distinct possibility it only leaks while being driven.

While being driven the engine will move around on the flexible engine mounts as a reaction to acceleration and deceleration and a few feet of fuel pipe near the front will be flexing because of that. It is possible a joint might be leaking a little or a crack in a pipe is opening as the engine moves.

A strong fuel smell indicates a leak and unless the leak is directly on the floor there will be evidence though a good light and a degree of patience will be needed - and of course being at eye level with the area being inspected.

2009 MALIBU smell gas from underneath the car?

is your purge canister working correctly or does it cause the fumes to stay in fuel tank and smell from the tank cap. Check when the car is off by removing the filler cap whether you have a pressure in tank. this might cause the smell, unless there is a small leak not noticeable somewhere.

No service engine light? A loose gas cap will set a light.
You may want to inspect your fuel filler neck and anything close. For a long while its not uncommon for a person to report the fuel odor issue and have it be where some low life cut a filler neck or puntured a tank to steal fuel. But if that were the case there would usually be a service engine or gas cap light as the systems now days monitor pressures so they can detect leaks in the Evap system.

When you mention a smell though under the hood, do you think the smell could be exhaust? I have seen those manifolds crack. or maybe just a leak from a gasket or exhaust donut.

I had the same problem last year with my rx8, I smelt gas inside the cabin, and every time I parked in the garage it would smell strongly of gas. I tried injector cleaner and everything, but nothing helped. About 4 months after i started to notice the smell, one of my fuel injectors blew, I believe the small was coming from the crack in it, I would suggest you get you injectors checked, After the blow, I got it fixed, they rebuilt the injector for about $300 cad. and it runs great now,

Hoped this helps

Gas fume smell near filler , no apparent leaks or wetness underneath. 2005 chevy tahoe 2 wheel drive

there are gasoline vent tubes running on top the tank to the filler neck. check to see if the hoses are compromised in any way. these tubes also run to the front to a evap canister check these as well.

I smell gas fumes coming from my car when i park and turn off the ignition

normally fumes come in to vehicle when stopped because of oil leak from rocker cover but check your fuel filler cap seal etc and also incase the tank is leaking just have a sniff at the rear of the car if its the filler cap or tank filler you normally get smell when tank is nearly full and been around a few corners the fuell filler nect becomes pourous and just spills out a bit if so will need replacing .but most time its an oil leak from rocker box or engine

You know where you insert the Gas Nozzle to Fill it up? That is the Filler Neck and it can Develop Holes that will release Gas Fumes.
