I installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the fitting where the oil pressure sender is mounted. I mounted the pressure gauge low by the steering column so I can see it but its not in the way so I know what my oil pressure is.

The first parts to starve for oil are the camshafts and valve lifters. I had the same problem and snapped the exhaust camshaft on my passat 1.8 turbo. I have the factory service manual from VW and I rebuilt the motor myself except for some machine shop work so I am familiar with the engine.

With the right fittings you can keep the idiot light but you will know exactly what the oil pressure is. You didnt mention a vehicle type but a common issue with the four cylinder motors (the 2.0 and the1.8turbo) is that the oil pump pickup screen is the size of a fifty cent piece which builds up with sludge and becomes the size of a thumb tack.

Even if the idiot light is not on you are operating with low oil flow and pressure. You need to have someone remove the oil pan and clean the pickup screen.

Will changing the engine oil help the engine light stop flashing on and off hi coolant temperature in a 02 Buick rendezvous

if it has not been changed for a very long time then yes. is the level with in the low and high marks on the dipstick. is the engine making any kind of noise. if so have the oil pressure checked. it could be the oil pressure switch that has gone bad and needs replacing if there is no noise.

Oil warning light keeps coming on

if you don`t hear any engine noise then its more than likely the oil pressure switch is acting up. this is likely a coincidence that it happened after the oil change. have the oil pressure switch replaced.

I have 2005 kia spectra and I got a new radiator

if there is no engine noise then the oil pressure is probably good there fore you most likely have a bad oil pressure sensor that is bad causing the oil light to come on. change the oil pressure sensor(OPS).

Knocking noise

First confirm the oil level is adequate by checking the dip stick. If the oil level is okay you may have a partial blockage that is starving the oil line leading to the sensor. Missed regularly scheduled oil changes may result in this happening.
If sludge is the problem your dealer can recommend an oil additive that may clear out the problem.
You may also have a failed sensor as well.

04 dodge stratus has oil light coming on after a while of driving, car will start to make weird sounds and eventually dies, not sure if this is an oil pump problem, or a head gasket problem

sounds like an oil pump issue-but you need to look at your oil, is it white or foamy? If so, you have a dreaded sludge issue with that engine, a common complaint. change the oil, first, if you are going to drove it AT ALL, weither or not it is white or normal looking-

if you are using 5w-30, use 10w-40 and see if that makes the oil light go away. then keep an eye on engine temperature, the appearance of the oil on the dip stick and oil level. If it remains clean and at a normal level and the light still flickers, you should have the sender unit checked or replaced first. if that doesn't solve it you may need a oil pump, and then I am assuming the noise you speak of is a spun crank bearing, then it gets real expensive.

It is because of this that I say change the oil NOW, because if you hear noises, driving it with bad oil will kill the engine sure as anything. If it is foamy after the oil change, it probably is a head gasket, and you need to park it and get it fixed-again, if it is not too far gone (spun bearing, crankshaft or camshaft).

Oil light has been comming off and on for a few days. check oil levels they are fine. noise like a dddddddd and happens more when push on gas. Mechanic said the engine was not getting any oil pressure, he...

those cars are known for intake gasket leak and if it leak, the coolant will some time leak into the engine oil. when the water and oil mix the valve lifter will colapse then there is noise.
yes, you need to get another opinion to see if there is just the valve lifters. good luck!

The light come saying low oil level, stop safely and stop engine. Had oil change two weeks ago.

Hi:
The first thing to do, of course is to check your oil? Even though you had an oil change two weeks ago, you could have a bad gasket on your new oil filter, or there could have been a oil plug problem, or it could be just a sensor failure. If your oil is really low, you need to take it some where to find the leak. IF the oil level is ok, then you need to troubleshoot the sensor .

My engine is making a clickin sound.the oil light is on.i got the oil change

Check the oil level. When you can hear clicking or a ticking noise under the hood, it's usually an indication that there's insufficient oil in the engine. There's a chance that when you had the oil changed, they either didn't tighten the oil filter or oil plug adequately. In some occasions it could occur if the wrong oil filter was installed. Either way, check your oil level. If the oil level is fine however, then the oil pressure switch is most likely the culprit and should be replaced. I hope you find this post to be helpful and wish you the best of luck with your problem.
