Should have a vaccum check valve somewhere losing vaccum on accel may have a cracked resevoir or something

A/C fan stops completely (No Air) when accelerating.


The blower is probably running when you are accelerating, but you may not have air coming out the dash vents. If there is a vac leak in the HVAC the vent control will go back to the default setting which is defrost. You may not have enough vac to keep the blend doors on the vent setting when the engine is under load.

Air flow issue- intermittently blows from wrong vents


This is a common problem on this site.
In your case I would look for a vac leak or a sticky blend door.
Since the direction of air flow changes when you are accelerating, I'm going to guess the blend door or doors are controlled by engine vacuum. There may be a vac leak between the dash and the engine, or the blend door may not be able to move back and forth correctly.
Defrost is the default position when a problem occurs, to make sure the windshield is clear of fog or frost.

The blower motor stays on high all the time. A/C works but will not come out dash vents, comes out defrost and changes to floor when I accelerate. Thanks for your help. Cecil


Your problem with the blower motor only running on high is caused by a defective blower motor resistor pack. Replace the resistor pack. The problem with the vents is not related to the blower motor, and is caused by a problem with the vent controls. I suspect you have a vacuum leak under the dash.

96 dodge ram 1500, A/C blower thru vent in the face switches to defrost vent with acceleration. I was told this may be the vacuum lines. If so, which ones?


had this same problem on my 97 the vacume line going to the canister has a one way valve going to it mine was bad now the vents work great

2003 Grand Marquis LS Ultimate ac switches from blowing in dash vents to defroster vents on its own. What controls the valve and where is it located?


Does it only change when going uphill, or under heavy acceleration? Or is it just when ever it feels like it? Generally, it's vacuum controlled and on a Ford, loss of vacuum when accelerating or pulling a grade under heavy loads can be normal, causing the air to come out of the defrost. To answer your question, the blower door is located in the dash, generally behind the radio area.

With AC blower set on MAX, if I have to accelerate or climb a hill, the air switches to the defroster vents. Any ideas on what to check?


may possibly be a vacuum leak... look underneath to make sure all the vacuum hoses for the vents are intact. there is a small resevoir (usually mounted on the firewall near the brake booster) it looks like a film cannister or similiar. that may have failed. you should be able to similate that same action by flooring it on a level road. you will hear the vents change as it loses vacuum.

You have a vacuum leak. Look under the dash and check the placement of the vacuum hoses that activate the vent doors. One or more may have slipped or may be cracked.

Head lamps will not work


for the defroster only problem, check your vacuum lines. There are even lines under the dash. The switch the controls all that is run on a vacuum. It sounds like you have a head gasket leak. If the leak is big enough, you will lose vacuum pressure. The blower defaults to defrost vents when the vacuum is not strong enough. I had a leak in a vacuum line, causing the blower to switch to defrost, no matter what it was set to.

Air vents


THE DEFROSTER DOOR WAS FROZEN SHUT. WHICH CAUSED COMPUTER SWITCH TO GO OUT.HAD TO REPLACE THE DEFROSTER BOX(?) AND COMPUTER SWITCH. WORKS FINE NOW.
