Question about 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

1991 cavalier 2.2L which way does the flow arrow point on the fuel filter under the car by the gas tank. The old filter arrow was worn off. Do i install the new filter with the arrow towards the r/r tire or the opposite direction. The filter is a canister type round with a fuel line that connects, 1 on each end. The new filter has a flow arrow, i was hoping to just find an illustration or a picture to make it a simple install.

The arrow is the flow of fuel and it should be pointing to the engine. That is where it going. It will work backwards for a while till it clogs up, there is no room for debris in there but one way. Check it out.

Where is the fuel filter located

Under the car. Follow the fuel lines from the rear to the front of the car. You will see some kind of canister between the fuel lines. That will be your fuel filter. The lines will travel down the driver side or the passenger side coming from your gas tank. You can't miss it. It is an in-line filter.

1990 Jackaroo has a fuel problemThis is usually due to fuel starvation.
  1. Replace the fuel filter.
  2. You can check if the fuel pump is working when you disconnect the filter hose.
  3. Place something under the filter and the disconnected hose and get somebody to turn the ignition switch to the on position
  4. The fuel should be pumped through the hose that is connected to the back of the car.
  5. If the front hose is disconnected the fuel flow will be minimal or none at all.
  6. When you put the new filter in make sure the flow arrow is pointing the same way as the old filter was.
  7. If no arrow is visible connect the (Front is " < " this part of the arrow) and (Back is Shaft / Straight part of the arrow)
  8. The Front of the filter should be pointed to the front of the car
  9. the Back of the filter should be connected to the hose that is connected to the fuel tank.
If there is no petrol being pumped out when the filter is disconnected, this usually means that the fuel pump is not working and needs to be replaced.

LOOK UNDER CAR FUEL FILTER LOCATED FORWARD OF FUEL TANK. RELIEF FUEL PRESSURE BY DISCONNECTING THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR AT THE FUEL PUMP OR REMOVE FUSE.CRANK CAR UNTIL DIES FROM LACK OF FUEL. THEN REMOVE FUEL FILTER USE IN LINE WRENCH AND OPEN WRENCH.THIS KEEP YOU FROM DAMAGING FUEL LINES.WHEN INSTALLING FUEL FILTER THE ARROWS SHOULD BE POINTING IN DIRECTION OF FLOW.

Changed the fuel pump and fuel filter but now car

It could be that the fuel filter was put on backwards or it could be the wrong filter. Some fuel filters will only allow the Fuel to flow a certain direction properly. There should be an arrow pointing the direction of flow on the filter or in and out are stamped on the end of the filters. If you can I would crawl underneath your car and locate the fuel filter. Look for the fuel line that comes from the fuel tank and follow it to the Fuel filter. Look for the arrow or the in and out. The back of the arrow should be where the line comes into it from the fuel tank and the head of the arrow should be connected to the line going towards the front of the car. If in and out are stamped on the filter, the line connected to the IN side of the filter should be the line coming from the fuel tank and the Out side should be the Line going towards the engine.. Hope this helps a bit

Where is my fuel filter on my 92 corsica

Fuel filter should be located next to the gas tank, towards the front of the car, usually just beneath the passenger seat. Be sure to mark which way the arrow on the old filter is pointing before you remove it. Scratch an arrow somewhere on the underside of the car to remind you which way it is supposed to go. Be sure to clean off any dirt and debris before you take off the old one, use compressed air or carb cleaner. Another tip from the Haynes manual: lubricate the fittings on the new filter with clean engine oil before pushing the quick-connect fittings onto them. Make sure you hear them 'click' into place.

SAFETY:
[1] Relieve fuel pressure. If you have Throttle Body Injection, just take off the gas cap and disconnect the negative battery cable. Port Fuel Injection is a more involved procedure.
[2] Raise the rear of the car and use proper jack stands
