The drain plug is in the bottom right corner of the radiator as you are facing the front of the car. You attach a rubber hose to the side and turn the plug counter clockwise to open it.

There is none, you have to either drop the pan or **** it out with an oil pumper with a tub on the end.

PAN & FILTER SERVICE The fluid should be changed according to the schedule in the Maintenance Intervals chart. If the car is normally used in severe service, such as stop and start driving, trailer towing, or the like, the interval should be halved. If the car is driven under especially nasty conditions, such as in heavy city traffic where the temperature normally reaches 90°F (32°C), or in very hilly or mountainous areas, or in police, taxi, or delivery service, the fluid should be changed every 15,000 miles (24,000 km.). The fluid must be hot before it is drained; a 20 minute drive should accomplish this.

  1. To drain the automatic transaxle fluid, the fluid pan must be removed. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Place a drain pan underneath the transaxle pan, then remove the pan attaching bolts except on the four corners of the pan.
  2. Loosen the four attaching bolts on the corners approximately four turns each, but do not remove them.
  3. Very carefully pry the pan loose on one corner. You can use a small prybar for this if you work CAREFULLY. Do not distort the pan flange, or score the mating surface of the transaxle case. You'll be very sorry later if you do. As the pan is pried loose, all of the fluid is going to come pouring out.
  4. Carefully break the other corners loose until fluid is flowing steadily from the entire pan.
  5. After the fluid is down flowing, remove one corner bolt and attempt to drain any remaining fluid. Remove the remaining bolts and remove the pan and gasket. Throw away the gasket.
  6. Clean the pan with solvent and allow it to air dry. If you use a rag to wipe out the pan, you risk leaving bits of lint behind, which will clog the dinky hydraulic passages in the transaxle.
  7. Remove and discard the filter and the O-ring seal. To install:
  8. Install a new filter and O-ring, locating the filter against the dipstick stop.
  9. Position a new gasket on the pan, then install the pan. Tighten the bolts evenly and in rotation to 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm.). Do not overtighten.
  10. Add approximately 4 qts. (3.8 L) of DEXRON® III or IIE automatic transmission fluid to the transaxle through the dipstick tube. You will need a long necked funnel, or a funnel and tube to do this.
  11. With the transaxle in P, put on the parking brake, block the front wheels, start the engine and let it idle. DO NOT RACE THE ENGINE. DO NOT MOVE THE LEVER THROUGH ITS RANGES.
  12. With the lever in Park, check the fluid level. If it's OK, take the car out fori poured oil in my tranny - where is the drai plug - prev.gif drive, park on a level surface, and check the level again, as outlined earlier in this section. Add i poured oil in my tranny - where is the drai plug - next.gifid if necessary. Be careful not to overfill, which will cause foaming and fluid loss. NOTE: If the drained fluid is discolored (brown or black), thick, or smells burnt, serious transmission troubles, probably due to overheating, should be suspected. Your car's transaxle should be inspected by a reliable transmission specialist to determine the problem.

should be on the bottom of radiator,some only have a plug,if you can't locate just undo bottom radiator hose and flush.

Added a little too much oil but when i took out the plug to drain some out, no oil came out. Why is this?


I don't know what you did, are you sure it was the oil drain plug and not the transmission? Was it the dipstick that told you you added too much oil? How much is too much? The vw doesn't have a pan for the oil to sump in, it is a splash type engine, the crank rides in an oil bath and splashes all over everything, It also has a pump to get the oil into the rockers, the drain plug is in the middle of the engine. The tranny drain plug is back a ways, You should have 2 plugs on the side of the tranny, one is for level and the other is a filler, pull th ebottom one, if oil seeps out it is ful, if not, pull the top plug and fill it up with 90 weight for standard or tranny fluid for automatic. Get that taken care of, you could be riding around on a hot tranny, no oil. I pulled the plug on my truck one day to change the gear oil, and nothing came out, oops. No wonder it was whining like a freight train.

I wanna flush and change tr. oil at home.Is it hard?


no just takes about 1 hour you need to get a tranny filter and 6 quarts tranny fluid and a drain pan then you have 12 bolts holdin the pan in {trick if you only loosen 3 lower bolts you can control the flow of where oil comes out} then you take out old filter spray all bottom there with carb cleaner to clean out the gunk and scrape old gasket off then put in new filter and new gasket and put bolts back in then fill her up and your done you do need get a new gasket tooooo

If you keep the oil changed and keep the engine tuned up, no problems. Have the tranny fluid and filter changed also. I've got 245,000 + on my '98 w/ this philosophy.

No dipstick to put transmission fluid into


HI, this transmission is a sealed type. you will need to purchase a special tool from the dealership to fill this unit properly.

How do i find a trans stick on a 2003 oldsmobile alero?


cant help with this one because i have never seen one here in spain,but look for engine oil dipstick first then the auto is often close by ,but some cars dont have one its done from underneath

Wheres the tranny dip stick


If it is an automatic, the end of the dipstick should have a yellow plastic handle which should be located to the right rear of the engine compartment (facing car). If it is a straight drive, there is no dipstick. You will have to find the fill plug and take it out. The gear oil should come up to the fill hole.

i consider it a bugger to fill up.... there is a special bolt/plug on the side of the tranny. you remove it and add oil there....

Doesn t the New Beetle need tranny oil change


I just "serviced my tranny with the assistance from a VW tech. It is indeed a closed system, yes it needs to be serviced and do't let anyone tell you that changing the filter is not necessary. Whatever you do, DON'T, I repeat DO NOT put regular automatic fluid in this tranny!!! You will be buying a new tranny if you do. This tranny take a "special" European fluid that cost about $17 USD a liter. It takes three and one half liters. I would buy five just to "flush" the system.
To start, the engine and tranny must be cold, let it set over night. A lift is almost a must have. remove the tranny skid plat (four bolts) then the tranny pan (four bolts) have a catch pan ready. after allowing the fluid to drip, remove the filter and the O-ring (it will probably stay in place after you remove the filter and is a orange/red color) clean the area with a bit of brake clean. replace filter and pan, not the skid pan yet. remove the drain plug, you should have located it by now. it should take an Allen wrench. On the front of the tranny you will see a refill plug, it has a snap lock, that you will probably break. after removing the lock you can remove the plug. take a length of hose, 5/16th I think, place in the refill hole, run it up to the top of the engine and put a funnel in the tube. I found it easiest to hang the funnel with the tube from a bunge chord attached the underside of the hood. pour in three liters, this will take a little while. Yes, the plug is still out. after you have pour in three liters, start the car. leave it in park or neutral. Allow the car to come up to temperature, you know you have reached this point when the cooling fans have come on twice. Let the fans come on then go off and come on again. now the car should be high enough to see under but low enough to reach your funnel/hose that is still attached. Drain plug still out, car up to temp, height just right, now pour in more fluid. After about another half a liter, you should start to see the fluid dribbling out (into a catch pan). I pour an additional liter through mine to flush it, although this is not mandatory. leave the car running throughout this process. after you have poured at least four liters into the tranny and yes some will leak out, with car still running re-insert and tighten the drain plug. Turn the car off, replace the skid pan, remove the hose, replace the refill plug and lock (you did buy a new one when you bought the filter and oil, right?) if not just zip-tie it in place. Clean up the mess and DRIVE. congratulations, you just serviced you own tranny and saved two hundred bucks!
