  1. Make sure ignition switch is in OFF position and all accessories are OFF.
  2. Open hood.
  3. Remove the air cleaner housing.
  4. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable then the positive cable.
  5. Loosen bolt (4) and retainer (1) that holds the battery down to the tray.
  6. Lift battery out of battery tray and remove from vehicle.
  7. Remove thermal guard (if equipped) from battery.

CAUTION: Vehicles equipped with the turbocharged engine use a unique battery hold down. If the replacement battery is not identical, in size to the original, it may be necessary to use non-corrosive spacers on top of the hold down retainer to properly secure the battery in the battery tray.

When replacing battery, the thermal guard MUST be transferred to the new battery (if equipped).
  1. Install battery in vehicle making sure that the thermal guard (if equipped) is present and battery is properly positioned on battery tray.
  2. Install battery hold down hardware (1), (2), (3) and (4) making sure that it is properly positioned on battery. Torque clamp to 12.5 N.m (110 in. lbs.) .
  3. Install battery cables on battery posts. Install battery positive cable first.
  4. Torque clamp nuts to 12.5 N.m (110 in. lbs.) .
  5. Install air cleaner housing.
  6. Close hood.
  7. Verify proper vehicle operation.

My 2006 pt cruiser battery light is coming on. What does this mean?

There is a problem in the charging system. Either your battery is not holding a charge anymore, or your alternator is dead. The first thing to do is check the alternator. turn on the car and then remove the negative battery terminal. If the car shuts off immediately after disconnecting the battery then your alternator is bad and needs to be replaced. If it stays on, then your alternator is OK, you then need to remove the battery and go have it tested at your local auto parts store. Also have all the battery cables checked for corrosion as well, if they're hard and frayed then replace those as well.

I need to know how to remove the battery from a 2006 PT cruiser. Havent' driven it in a while and the posts corroded. I need to switch the battery out for a new one, but I cannot seem to find the area...

there should be a plastic protective cover. You can release this by pressing in the tabes on both sides and slide the cover up and off of the battery. then you should find on bolt running through a plastic wedge that clamps the battery down. this will be located at the base of on of the long sides of the battery. you will need a ratchet, 6" or longer extension and a metric socket set. It will mostlikely be 12,13,14,15mm bolt. Hope this info helps.

How to change the battery in an 04 PT Cruiser.

for the 2.4L LE and BE PT Cruisers, the first thing you need to do is remove the air filter housing by un-clipping it. the tricky part is that the battery is held down by a clamp that requires you to remove the main electrical box and base. it looks harder than it is because it is simply two rubber grommets anchored to a metal plate. you can reach your hand underneath and feel for them, then push them upward through the anchor holes to release the base. you will see the clamp that holds the battery in place, just remove the two bolts that are holding it down and replace the battery with a new on and reverse the procedure. hope this was helpful, i spent almost 1.5 hours figuring it out
