Question about 1998 Mazda Protege
It means that the stupid idea of fitting a catalystic converter in the first place dont work!!!! they only start to work when they reach about 75 degrees faranhight any colder and they just wont work,,,and as most driver dont drive for more that 30 minuets it never gets that hot?
see its a stupid idea,,, huh? you may need to change the temp censor to stop it flaging this up at you every time you start the engine up,,,
that or park the car over a bonfire just to keep the cat hot every time you turn the engine off!

This means the HO2 (Oxygen) Sensor downstream of the catalytic converter on bank 1, is detecting that the converter is not working as efficiently as it should be (according to specs). It is part of the vehicle emissions system.
