Draining Battery

Check the alternator. You can observe your interior dome light or the vehicle headlights as you rev the engine. If the light intensity changes with as the RPMs of the engine changes, then you have a faulty alternator.

Yes the battery can be effected (drain) but in any kind of weather, unless you turn the radio off when you turn the engine off. The power wire in either application is connected directly to the battery as opposed to being connected to the ACC terminal which will be switched on and off with the ignition. You should connect the power wire (should be RED in color) from the radio plug to the terminal (marked "acc") on your fuse box located somewhere under your dash board. It sounds as though it's possible that the RED power wire and the YELLOW "Memory" wire have been switched, the power wire should be switched with the ignition and the Memory wire should be connected directly to a Battery terminal (marked as Batt also on the fuse box) or to the battery itself. All of these wires should be labeled with a small tab indicating there connection. Example Red wire marked (+ poss power), Black wire (- Neg Ground) Yellow wire (Memory) and usually 2 Green, 2Grey, 2 Blue, 2Purple as for the Speakers Poss. & Neg. respectively.

Can worn out ignition switch cause the battery to drain down when car is off and setting for 2 or 3 days?

Yes the faulty ignition switch can definitely drain the battery.Because actually the car is not got completely off.You inserted the key in the ignition switch and turned it to off.But because the ignition switch is faulty the car did not turned off.It remained ON.The other possibility is that the ignition switch is got internally short and causing this problem. There are many other possibilities too for this battery getting drained when car is off.But as per your question which you asked, yes. If the ignition switch is faulty then car battery gets drained even when the car is off. ---------- Get the ignition switch checked by meter and confirm the fault. --------- Thanks.Helpmech.

Sounds like it needs an alternator to me.At least check the belt and make sure it is tight enough. If the belt is not broke and is tight,Autozone will do a free alternator and battery check.
Good luck! Greg

My ford expedition just all of a sudden starting playing the radio in time when the key is not in the ignition and my air is blowing when key is not in ignition now my battery is dead i'm scared to drive...

Hi.this is being caused by a faulty ignition switch the Accessory or auxiliary circuit is not shutting down, via ignition circuit breaker. this will occur in defective switch from time to time. simply replacing this ignition switch will fix your issue.

When you turn your ignition switch all the way off, it is designed to kill all auxiliary power once this motion is initiated. if the switch mechanism is faulty, the circuit is unable to control the current, in return, allowing the current to stay closed. this is mechanism failure at the most and, the switch should be replaced.

If you wish, i will post a battery drain test below so you can pin point the exact location where the circuit is closed when the switch is in the off position. If the current pull is located on numerous devices, this will confirm my diagnosis.

Here is the procedure I use to isolate a battery drain. Remove negative battery cable from the battery. Using a 12-volt test light, hook one end to the negative battery post the other end to the negative battery cable you just disconnected. The test light will glow or "light" if there is a drain. If the "light or glow" is faint, that is probably normal draw for the clock or computer. If the "light or glow" is bright, then there is a large drain. That should be corrected. Now start removing and replacing the fuses one by one until the light goes out; that one will be the circuit with the drain. Remember to hold in the button in the door jam for the interior lights.

Sounds like you do have ignition switch problem, But to test where the voltage drain is you need to disconnect the battery negative terminal ,hook a multimeter up between the negative battery post and the negative battery cable and start pulling fuses one at time and putting them back in one at time until you a drop in the current draw. Please note there should always be a miniscule (.3 amps or less that powers the radio memory and such).

most likely you have a very bad ignition switch, the only other pathway for switched acc. to operate when key is off is if someone has had the wires feeding the fuse box crossed. so unless you had recent wiring done by an amature, you need and ignition switch. after replaceing you may still need to replace some fuses or bulbs that didn't like being powered at the wrong time.

LED light will not go off...i had to replace battery this the problem?

I had the same problem it turned out to be my ignition switch of all things... sometimes it would turn on and sometimes not... I called AAA on 4 occasions my regular mechanic could not find anything on the diagnostic test and recommend I go the inexpensive route and replace the battery. It was not the battery I ended up taking it to the dealership the experts to give it a diagnostic and it turned out to be the ignition switch, never had problems since.
