Its a 1986 VW Jetta. I am looking at converting carburetor into EFI engine, is this possible? Another problem is, it is in Kathmandu, Nepal. How can I get it fixed. Besides, it has some other problems....

Hi,Kathmandu, Anything is possible when we want.To make your Jetta conventional with carburetor you need some parts extra such as inlet manifold and a carburetor-make sure is PIERBURG-2.Ignore fuel pump by removing the fuse, and then repair all fuel pipes from and to fuel tank.Don.t touch the electronics

I am planning on changing my water pump in my 86 Jetta diesel. I took a water pump off a 86 jetta (gas engine). I am having trouble getting to the top 2 bolts on the water pump. How can I get to those 2...

I dont think that you are installing the proper pump, you should really try using a new or remands water pump for a diesel, as the bolt patterns maybe different.

I was driving my jetta just now and it just turned off i was switching to third gear, didnt stall battery is good dont know whats causing the problem any ideas, all fuses are fine

Lots of possibilities.
For example you could have run out of gas.
When you turn the key on, do you hear the fuel pump for 3 seconds or so?
If not, it could be the fuel pump relay.
But it could also be ignition.
Try some starting fluid spray, and if that does not sputter, it is likely to be ignition.

My 1986 volkswagen jetta won't stay running and i think it has something to do with the throttle body or injectors, when i start it, it stays running for 4 to 5 seconds then shuts off how do i fix this...

normally you will find if you replace the filters it should solve the prob although if it does not then fuel pump acumulator valve might be faulty or vacuum hose to it leaking ( located on the end of the fuel rail to injectors)

See these items:-

The starter must have been bad due to the water.

Bad PCM or ignition coil.

Corroded battery cables.

See timing belt.

Fuel Lines on 1986 VW Jetta where to buy the fittings ?

Usually a dealer item, or junkyard. I've seen some on e-Bay. Also check Do not replace them with hoses and clamps, due to a chance of a leak and fire. The fuel pressure is rather high.

Need to locate fuel pump on 96 jetta

1996 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L SFI 4cyl

On a Digifant fuel system, the fuel pump is mounted in a reservoir under the rear of the vehicle. The fuel filter is also in this area. The reservoir holds one liter of fuel and is supplied by a small transfer pump in the tank. The transfer pump can be replaced separately even though they are installed and removed as a unit.

The Motronic system uses two fuel pumps. The first is a small transfer pump to get the fuel out of the tank and the second boosts the fuel pressure to the necessary amount. The transfer pump is located inside the tank and the main pressure pump can be found under the vehicle. This transfer pump is located under the rear seat and is part of the fuel gauge sending unit. The main fuel pump can be found in the reservoir in front of the rear axle beam. There is a check valve inside this pump to maintain pressure in the lines, especially on hot days, to avoid vapor lock. The fuel filter is mounted to the side of the reservoir. This filter has no specified replacement interval and should be good for the entire service life of the vehicle. Whenever the ignition key is in the on position, the pump should run for at least two (2) seconds to pressurize the fuel lines. If the Engine Control Unit (ECM) does not see a signal from the Hall Effect sensor in the distributor it will shut the pump off. If a Hall Effect signal is present, the pump will continue to run as long as a signal is detected. It is this Hall Effect signal that signals the ECM that the engine is rotating therefore indicating that fuel is needed. The pump is operated via a relay that is controlled by the ECM. This relay is located in the vehicles fuse panel. The main contacts of the relay can be jumped to run the pump during testing.

Fuel pump

hi the only reason you would need to replace your fuel pump is if it is not producing enough fuel preasure to run your engine.
