Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
There is a short vacuum hose located behind the passenger side headlight assembly. Chances are it is cracked (mine was). Replace this and your troubles should go away!

There is a vacumn resevoir somewhere on the car under the bonnet and this has a hole in it so the resevoir isnt hold the vacumn long enough to keep the vents open.Know this because i had the same problem with a GM astro van ,it was missing and spares here in spain are ?' difficult to find without a long drive so took a vacumn tank off an old merc from the scrappers and that cured it

its a problem with the switching mechanism. you have to look up under the dash to see if you can see where the switching mechanism is. if you can not see it from there youll have to remove complete center dash
