Question about 2005 Saturn VUE

Check engine light on, no codes but running rough

I have a 2005 Saturn Vue manual trans. The check engine light came on but there are no codes it says" passed no codes found", however it is not running right. It feels like it is stumbling upon acceleration, I thought maybe it was the gas so I put in a gas treatment and a carb/fuel injector cleaner but that has not helped. I have not used up a full tank of gas since this problem started. I now notice a very strong toxic smell and brownish smoke coming from the exhaust. Any ideas??

Stop running this vehicle immediately it sounds as if someone or something has contaminated your fuel either a bad person or a service station that seriously needs to have their gas tanks replaced under ground as they do sometimes leak and water and dirt can be the bi product of what you are experiencing.
I would take the car to a reputable shop and have them analyse the fuel if it is contaminated or if you mistakedly recieved a few gallons of diesel fuel at the last gas station you visited, have them save a fuel sample have them drop the fuel tank and have it flushed completely out, also have the fuel injectors serviced using a high detergent injector cleaner along with flushing the fuel lines.
If all this seems to have happened right after your last gas station filling event I would contact the statios area Rep. and present them with the entire bill for repair, this is not a unique problem to only your vehicle it has been seen time and time again for years.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. I kind of thought it might be the gas. One thing I didnt make clear though whether it makes a difference or not is that when this problem started I had a little less than a quarter of a tank. I added gas treatment & fuel injector cleaner & then immediately filled tank with premium gas from my regular station. Whats funny too is that its intermittent. It will stumble terribly one minute & then get in the next time & its barely doing it at all.

That is what happens when the fuel tank is contaminated, the dirt/grit/water/whatever else may be the culprit settles to the bottom of your gas tank and occassionally gets stirred up by either getting gas which causes the fuel liquids in the tank to stir and get sucked into the fuel pick up tube or when you got gas they sold you a pile of bad fuel, whatever the case may be you should make sure the tank is pulled out and drained and flushed along with a new fuel filter, injector service and fuel lines flushed, this will put you at ease knowing you will be able to travel without breaking down.
    Hope This Helps.

Sharon I forgot to mention one last thing the fuel may have contaminated the catalyctic converter and possibly the O2 sensors, so please have a real realiable shop check this vehicle out and ask for the old parts back as well, sometimes this will help to keep the shop workers a little bit more honest on what they deem neccessary to replace at your expense.

    Good luck!!

How to reset the engine light on a 2005 saturn vue

Check engine light? You'll need a code eraser to perform this function, and if there is an issue with the vehicle causing the light to come one, which seems to be the case, the issue will need to be corrected for the light to stay off.
